Luigi's Mansion scares up a 3DS release date
The GameCube classic will come to Nintendo 3DS this October.
Ghosts and Halloween go together, and it seems like every year, a publisher with a thematically appropriate game releases it mere weeks ahead of the big holiday. This year, that publisher is Nintendo, and that game is the 3DS port of Luigi's Mansion.
In a press release issued earlier this morning, Nintendo announced Luigi's Mansion will be available in stores starting October 12, 2018, with an MSRP of $39.99 USD. It's not quite a last hurrah for the system, which still has a Mario & Luigi remake on the way, but it's pretty close.
In Luigi's Mansion, the green hatted one arrives at a haunted mansion, equipped with a Poltergust 3000. It's basically a vacuum, and it will allow him to capture ghosts, find treasure and solve rudimentary puzzles while he searches for his missing brother, Mario.
New to this mode of the game is the Gallery Battle Mode, which allows Luigi to face off against bosses he has already defeated in the campaign. And of course, touch screen functionality that allows him to view a map of the mansion as they explore is another upgrade.
Luigi's Mansion was originally released alongside the GameCube way back in 2001 and has received a single sequel, Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon. That game was also released for 3DS, so it makes perfect sense that Nintendo would complete the set ahead of the 3DS hardware's impending demise. Are you ready to revisit the mansion?
