This game was such a monumental failure that not only did I feel incredibly disappointed with the game, but it also made me hesitant about buying future games in the series. I mean, FFXII was flawed, but it wasn't a terrible game. But this game has knocked one of my favourite franchises off the pedestal.
Perhaps this is a good thing? Maybe I was too much of a fanboy and I just didn't realise it. I wonder if I'd actually enjoy some of the previous games if I gave them another run through? Would Final Fantasy X still be my favourite game?
FFXIII review coming soon. I've written about half of it, so far. Hoping it's ready for Round 1.

Suskie - June 29, 2010 (09:09 AM) I think I can pretty much sympathize with about 99% of what's been said about this game. I enjoyed it, but then I was reading Fedule's behemoth of a bash review and nodding my head the whole time. It's weird like that. As Ben said, though, I don't consider the game a disappointment or an omen mainly because I have no notion of what a Final Fantasy game is supposed to be. I think that's one of the reasons I consider the series so overrated. It's so viciously inconsistent and there's no continuity whatsoever. Square could practically have released all of these games with different titles, rather than as an ongoing series, and it would have worked fine. Either way, I doubt we'll be seeing another game like Final Fantasy XIII anytime soon. Square Enix would have to be stupid to do this again after all the negativity it's inspired from series fans. |

zippdementia - June 29, 2010 (10:25 AM) One of my favorite reviews is the one I wrote for FFXIII in which I, a die hard fanboy, has his dreams turned to apathy. In total agreement here, Jerec. I keep meaning to go back and finish the damn thing for completion's sake but god I just can't care. |

jiggs - June 29, 2010 (09:40 PM) i think the series died when Sakaguchi and Uematsu left. Yoshitaka Amano is still around though, sort of. |

zippdementia - June 29, 2010 (10:40 PM) Amano was never that good. He had one really good game, which was FF7. The designs and backstory for that game were really unique and interesting. Then he just got blander and blander until he started just copying old character models. FFXII looks a lot like FFX and he openly admits to trying to remake FF7 with FFXIII. |
