Fable II
August 09, 2009

Very fun game. I actually bought this late last year, but then I got Fallout 3 a week later and got completely sidetracked. It's taken me this long to get back to it - I decided to start over. Very fun game. Been playing it all weekend, so it's partially responsible for my apathy towards judging this week.

I dare you to review it.

I'm in an odd boat in that I kind of want to play Fable II, but I thought the first was complete rubbish.

It's much the same as the first, but better in all areas.

I never really got into the first, despite trying to do so on two separate occasions. It was good and I knew it, but that didn't mean I wanted to play it... no matter how much I wanted to, if that makes any sort of sense. Fable II is more of the same but, as Jerec said, better in every area. For me, that was enough to turn a game I wanted to like into a game that I loved. Fable II is one of the absolute best Xbox 360 games that I've played to date. I'm excited by the prospect, but also concerned because I can't really imagine Molyneux and team topping it.

This is of no help at all!

I'll probably just grab up the game if ever I see it cheap and give it a go.

What I like most about Fable 2 is probably how the world is so full of life and is also so varied unlike Oblivion. Of course there's a fair bit less of it, but it's probably one of the best realised fantasy worlds in a game. Oblivion did the towns and cities better, but Fable captured the environment and atmosphere perfectly.

Fable 2 is a fun, simple action-RPG with a lot of charm and personality. As already said, it's basically everything from the first game but done better. Probably the biggest improvement though is the game environments because they're much bigger and open. But like the first game, it's really short even after doing a lot of the optional stuff. I gave the first one a 7, and I'd give the sequel an 8.

Did they fix the issue of the moral slider being completely one-sided? That was my big issue with the first one. I've also been hearing that Fable II's world isn't much bigger this time around. If that's true, it sucks, because it's tough to pull off the sandbox atmosphere when your game world is so small and confined.

I wrote a review explaining this in much greater depth, but the first Fable was actually quite enjoyable to play through once. It was only during my eventual replays that I discovered just how much it fell short of its ambition. Still, I'll probably consider picking up Fable II at bargain price if I ever decide to get my Xbox 360 fixed.

Are there explosions in this game?
jerec jerec - August 10, 2009 (03:07 PM)
There are explosions. You can use all sorts of magic, and there's one battle arena type place where there's explosive kegs you can detonate to kill lots of enemies at once.

I played a little bit of it and it seemed way better than the first game. If I ever get 360 access it would definitely be one of the first games I try.
