The always inferior sequel |
BERSERK and the Band of the Hawk
It's fine for what it is. Most of the time, the Warriors template works because Guts mowing down endless cannon-fodder fits, but it's such a toned-down retell of the forever manga.
Griffith remains an encourageable rascal.
Forspoken
Never -- NEVER -- has my pathological need to play famously shit games burnt me as hard as this did. Its reputation, dear friends, is richly deserved.
I Made a Game With Zombies In It
Those glorious bastards; they released this cornerstone of the excellent XBLI scene on Steam and have done it for free. Finding this carving a new playerbase has made me very happy.
Lost Door
Brilliant, brilliant pixel Lovecraftian horror hat I've now played through three times. Mostly to set myself up for playing Lost Door 2 before, inevitably, getting distracted by something else and starting the whole cycle anew
Murdered: Soul Suspect
Cool Noir game with a mild horror twist; you die and come back as a ghost to solve your own homicide. Would have been great if it ran hard with the mystery vibe, but settles for just being good by forcing under-cooked stealth/combat.
Post Mortem
Clunky first-person Noir/Horror Point & Click that does exactly one awful thing for every cool thing, just to make sure you can neither love it or hate it properly. Better as a Noir; doesn't really seem to understand its own horror angle.
Remember Me
Currently playing. Like me, you, one of the maybe 4 people who might read this, have probably slept on this game. You should change that. It shouldn't be as inventive, clever or downright good as it is.
Thinks a riot-infested, war-torn Paris is a futuristic setting. Haha.
Ryse: Son of Rome
A grueling campaign it certainly isn't -- I finished in about 7 hours -- but as cinematic brawlers go, it's a lot of fun. Focuses very hard on spectacle. Occasionally pulls it off.
Shadow People
Short little Gameboy-style adventure horror about exploring a town that probably doesn't exist and the numerous ways it can drive you insane.
Sonic the Hedgehog
Thought I'd run through a few levels just to see if it held up to my ridiculous nostalgia. It does. Then, a few hours later, I'd beaten the game with all the chaos emeralds because this game, it seems, is ingrained deep into my muscle memory.
Still Life
Loose sequel to Post Mortem. Plays as a traditional point & click, and focuses more on solving the crime than the spooky horror stuff it doesn't quite seem to grasp. Really limp ending, probably to set up the sequel.
Still Life 2
Sees the first game's limp ending, the very reason for its existence, and uses it as a tease to force you to go through its own never ending crime caper with so many false endings J.R.R Tolkien would get bored. Somehow forced to sever conclussion to two games, and underwealms at both.

honestgamer - October 08, 2023 (08:52 PM) Still a bit irked with The Lord of the Rings, as filmed by Peter Jackson. The version I saw didn't include the final little scene in the Shire where the bad guys turned on each other. Or maybe it wasn't quite that. I dunno. Haven't read it in 35 years. But I know it wasn't in the movie! |
