The video opens in a bar, where two unattractive women are playing pool. Noticing that a small group of equally unattractive and pathetically geeky young men are undressing them with their eyes, they challenge them (not to a game of pool. That’s far too obvious) to make an INXS music video. Oh yeah, then some gothic biker chicks walk in and talk about Megadeth, only to be shot down by the original girls because INXS are just so much cooler.
I won’t lie to you. I watched that scene and had no clue what was going on, why it was occurring and why I’d spent over an hour of my time downloading the rom. Suddenly, those aforementioned nerdy dorks were back in my face again, telling me about how to edit images to create the ultimate INXS video. I still had no idea what the hell this had to do with pool or getting laid. I mean, all these poor guys wanted was to bang these ugly chicks. Even I could see that editing video footage wasn’t going to get anyone anywhere, but apparently, these girls really liked INXS.
After enduring this, I had to choose between three songs (which aren’t even INXS’s best! :@) and was thrust into a video editing menu. This consisted of four screens, one being the primary recorded screen and the other three presenting various random video images which were seemingly random collages of old stock footage, clips from old films and cartoons and the original video of the song. It was my job to splice the footage from the screens into one collective video in sync with the song being played. I pretty much had no idea what the hell was going on, even when I had it explained to me. It seems that you have to pick specific images at the right time and put them on the main screen in time with the music and douse them with bizarre special effects, such as additional colour changes and pointless shading techniques.
After hopelessly button-bashing for about three minutes, I was told that my video was pretty good. I impressed those two girls at the bar so much that they totally wanted to get with those dorky guys (not me however, even though I did all the go!@#$! work.) I felt like a total pimp, but then reality quickly came crashing down and I realised I was playing a Make my Video game with the intention of reviewing it. Never in my days as a reviewer have I felt so nihilistic towards a game I’ve played. INXS: Make My Video can’t be rated as a game because it isn’t even close to one. I actually do not understand what Digital Pictures were even trying to do with this concept or how they thought some form of entertainment could be derived from it. You can’t even have a cheap giggle at their misfortune because it’s actually not even worth the effort.
