Oh, forgot Astyanax and Guardian Legend. I know Castlevania III, both of those Ninja Gaidens and Mega Man II are on there.

You're quite the resident NES pro, eh? I was one of the ten North American kids with an SMS, so the only NES games I could play were the ones my neighbour had.

I dreamed of Super Mario Bros. 3 last night. I don't know why the NES remains such a vital part of who I am now, but it does. One of these days, I hope to be able to devote more time to writing about those classic games that I grew up loving as a kid. As for my own list...

Astyanax
Paperboy
Dragon Warrior 2
Dragon Warrior 3
North 'N South
Ducktales
Kiwi Kraze
Bubble Bobble 2
Bigfoot
The Flintstones 2

Honestly, the NES presence on the Virtual Console is otherwise quite good. There are a few assorted other games that might add, but some of the most obscure titles I might like to see represented there already are. There's stuff like Capcom's excellent home port of 1943, Princess Tomato in the Salad Kingdom is there... lots of stuff. I do long for more of the Disney classics (licensing issues prevent that, I presume) and some of Rare's old stuff (Microsoft presents that, I presume), but the console really is represented fairly well.

Indeed. I think most of the stuff I have downloaded on my Wii consists of NES and SNES, and I still love going through those. I also wish Square Enix would release more of their SNES stuff.

A lot of games don't get released because their rights are in limbo, though.

For example, I would love to have the Soul Blazer trilogy on the VC, but Quintet's pretty much dead and I don't think any single person owns the right to the games (while Enix held the rights to Actraiser as a publisher), so those games will never see the light of day.

Yeah, I recall hearing that a lot of the Disney/Capcom games are being held back due to rights issues too. (Disney is apparently a difficult company to deal with, according to Capcom's PRs.)

Sweet Mergatroid, yes! I quite like The Guardian Legend, and think that more people should be playing it.

I'm not going to make any comments as to what games I would like to see on the Virtual Console service. One, I'm too lazy to think of any. Two, while I have access to a Wii, it's my brother's, and he hasn't downloaded ANYTHING to it -- Virtual Console or WiiWare.

Speaking of the Soul Blazer trilogy, I was thinking the other day and you know what's the weirdest thing about them? Minor spoilers (ie: major spoilers) may (ie: will) follow.

You never actually fight the HUMAN who's been build up by the game as this big antagonistic figure.

In Soul Blazer, King Magridd (who traded all his subjects...and himself; shoulda read the fine print...for gold) is just another person you rescue. In Illusion of Gaia, the Jackal, who's this diabolical bounty hunter you randomly hear is after you, gets taken out by a plot device. And in Terranigma, Beruga has an unfortunate battle with a helicopter blade or something like that before he can have one with you. Just something kind of interesting.

They're all pawns of the real antagonist, Dark Gaia.

I'd kill for the SB trilogy on Wii.
