... but PS3 has completely dropped the backwards compatibility for PS2 games? That sucks. And I wonder what it bodes for the PS4. Because the reason that they dropped it, from what I've read of the press statements, was the expense of modeling the PS2 chip.

jerec - January 07, 2011 (06:15 PM) Yeah, no backwards compatibility. But it's easy enough to keep a PS2 slim. |

Ninjamohawk - January 07, 2011 (07:30 PM) I heard it was because they realized they could still make a tidy profit by selling PS2 units. |

zippdementia - January 07, 2011 (07:34 PM) Are they still manufacturing PS2s, though? |

Ninjamohawk - January 07, 2011 (07:37 PM) Yep. Sony has stated before that until they stop selling, they will keep making them. I can't blame them one bit. I'm pretty sure it's one of the top selling home consoles (outside of handhelds). |

honestgamer - January 07, 2011 (08:10 PM) You can get a PS2 for $100 now at Fred Meyer. If you sweet talk the cashier, he might even let you out the door with it for $99.99. |

Ninjamohawk - January 07, 2011 (09:17 PM) Whoa, with deals like that you'd think it'd have to be BLACK FRIDAY. |

EmP - January 08, 2011 (04:38 AM) Yeah, that's worth the creditability hit born from bare-faced lying to your consumer base then keeping them in the dark about it until after the first wave of machines have been purchased. There's a comfortbale old rant I like to return to now and then. |

JoeTheDestroyer - January 08, 2011 (11:29 AM) It's a good thing, too, because I've had at least two PS2's crap out on me in the last three years. And it's good to see I'm not the only one here who knows of/potentially shops at Fred Meyer. |

honestgamer - January 08, 2011 (12:19 PM) I'll do you one better: I work in one! In the home electronics department, even! You'd better believe I shop there! |

zippdementia - January 08, 2011 (12:31 PM) I shop at one a lot! They are well known in Portland. |

honestgamer - January 08, 2011 (12:42 PM) I should hope they would be well-known in Portland, since that's they're headquarters and the city in which they were founded. :-D |

Ninjamohawk - January 08, 2011 (03:22 PM) I'm from the midwest so I had never heard of Fred Meyer and being the Wikinerd I am I looked it up. One article lead to another... Long story short I ended up reading about Showbiz Pizza and the Rocka-fire Explosion at 6am. Wikicrack |

JoeTheDestroyer - January 08, 2011 (07:14 PM) We have a couple of them here in Eastern Washington, and one very close to my house. My wife and I shop there pretty often. |
