Chrono Trigger fiction moving
May 16, 2009

Not sure if anyone here has actually read my long-winded (but wonderfully brilliant ^_^) fiction concerning the gap between Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross.

If you haven't... why not?

In any case, with HG's fiction segment shutting its doors, Chrono Break will be moving to Fan Fiction.net.

It will take some time to get all the parts up there, but I expect to be fully caught up within a week or two. Since I'm having to go back and repost many earlier parts, all parts have been slightly edited for continuity and style.

Eventually, I plan on a full rewrite, maybe even turning it into an original setting that could be published without fear of copyright infringement. But for now, the re-posted segments can be considered "final cuts."

Enjoy!

Very nice.

Just make sure you don't get a nasty, cease and desist letter from Square-Enix's legal department. They are ass-jockeys about people using a series they invented but plan to never touch again, despite the blatant cry from millions of fans.

Not regarding fan fiction, but you'd think these people making their own Chrono Trigger games would be offered jobs by Square Enix if the stuff was actually any good.

That rarely happens; I can only really think of iD doing something along those lines back in the Doom craze. Post-Doom 3, when the seroies wasn't pure arse.

The sad truth is, devs will slap legal stuff down on things even if thewy're little fan-made games not out to create a penny and crafted with nothing but love. Codemasters did this not so long ago with a bloody Dizzy fan project, and they've not touched the Dizzy franchise in a couple of decades. Square have become huge dicks about this since the Enix merger, and have a real stick up theior arse about Chrono. There was a Chrono Trigger complete remake being made by fans on the N64 way bck and they waited until it was all but complete to halt that. It's odd, too, because it's not like anyone could make a Chrono game any worse than Cross was.

Believe me, I know the sad history behind the Chrono Indy scene. My eventual plan would be to rework this fiction so it has nothing to do with Chrono Trigger and then self publish it through Lulu or something like that. Even SE can't say anything about people being INSPIRED by a series.

In the meantime, Fan Fiction is a pretty safe place to post this, seeing as how the site hosts something around 650 Chrono Trigger fan fics... and that doesn't count Cross fiction.

Any fanfic of Chrono Trigger should end with Frog stabbing and killing Magus. I did that the first time I played the game. Lost a very good party member, but did a very fulfilling thing that everyone in their right mind would do.

What, and cancel out a story arc that's full of possibilities but never goes anywhere?

Honestly, Magus and his "intricate" story line is a fanfic in it's own.

Just felt good going one on one with Frog against him with the best music in the background, that being Frog's theme and kicking his frog morphing arse. Even if Frog does look, if we are to believe PSX cutscenes like Vegeta in human form.

Actually, it's Janus' theme that plays during that epic fight.

Yeah...been a long time.

I've got that game memorized. Every NPC conversation. Every musical interlude. I never actually have to play the game again.
