... I don't understand why anyone would want to play video games on a computer.

Sure, there's some great games. Classics like Dungeon Keeper, Deus Ex, Baldur's Gate, Fallout... the list goes on and on AND ON.

But I can't play any of them. Why? Because computers ARE FUCKED.

Playing on a computer means I have to deal with near constant crashes. If I fix one game to work, then another doesn't work. If I download a patch, it fixes one thing and causes another problem elsewhere.

So I suppose I could understand the urge the play computer games... if they were actually playable. If my computer didn't need to be upgraded every couple of months.

I'll stick with console ANY DAY. Power on... game in... game on.

Since me and maybe Lewis are probably the only people on the site who disagree with you I'll answer why I prefer PC games.

1. keyboard and mouse > controller. I can't stand using controllers except for platformers (which are dead IMO), and racing games. For the latter I use a 360 controller and MS sidewinder works extremely well with ROMs. All the other genres that are better with controllers don't appeal to me.

2. Better games - FPS and RTS are my favorite genres and they play best on PC.

3. Better multiplayer - Xbox Live is nice but PC is free and so much better.

4. Better modding community/updates - countless mods available plus more updates and ability to edit/tweak game files is cool for me.

5. I'm a tech junkie so PC is far more fitting.

I have Vista 64-bit and personally have had more games crash on consoles than PCs so I can't agree with that point. If it's a constant problem chances are something's wrong with the computer and not the game. Stability has improved greatly over the years.

Also upgrades aren't as bad as everyone says they are if you have the need for a half decent PC. I need a fast computer so I update around every two and a half to three years. I'm just paying an extra $250 for a graphics card every 2-3 years, which is about as much as buying a new console every 4-5 years. Plus games are cheaper, updates are free, online is free, and you don't need to buy controllers, etc (although most PC gamers buy gaming mice, headsets, etc).

Consoles are still ok to me. The reason I don't own consoles anymore is because with the exception of the Wii (which doesn't appeal to me at all) they've for the most part turned into PCs and I would rather play on a PC any day.

I play console games for the same general reasons that sportsman plays PC games: because that's where I find the games I like. If the PC had games I liked more, then I wouldn't hesitate to fart around with all of the obstacles inherent to that platform. Console gaming is simpler, but so what?

I've tried PC gaming and I've enjoyed it, but console gaming is a better match for me. Online gaming is easier on a console, I like the controls better and until recently, PC games gave off a distinct vibe that just rubbed me the wrong way. With all of that said, there still are some PC games that I'll happily play. Europa Universalis III is brilliant. The Civilization IV titles are a blast. Most PC games that I like tend to be sim titles, actually. That's one genre where a mouse and keyboard definitely work better than two analog sticks or a d-pad. Most FPS games that I like will wind up on consoles sooner or later and for the most part control just fine with a standard controller, so there you go. Also, I'm not an MMORPG freak (mostly because of a lack of time, not necessarily interest) and I don't much care for RTS, so... that's most of PC gaming's current library of hits out the window for me. On top of all of that, I'm not a huge fan of mods. It's all about where your interests lie. I don't think that one is inherently superior to the other. I just prefer console gaming.
