My itinerary
May 11, 2009

I leave Friday which is much too soon if you ask me, but there's nothing I can do about it.

This'll be fun.....

United Airlines # 938

Chicago O'Hare International (ORD) to London Heathrow (LHR)

Departure (ORD): May 15, 9:05 PM CDT (evening)

Yeah. In the evening. That's not going to make Mom happy since we'll basically have to be there by 7:00 in the evening in order to get through security and all that crap on time. Which means leaving here around 5. On that note, though, I'm considerably worried about finding my gate. I've done research and it tells me that all international flights go through gates M1-M21 or something odd like that yet I have no indication whatsoever which one of these gates my flight is. Is that not something I find out until I actually get there?

Arrival (LHR): May 16, 11:15 AM BST (morning)

Bmi # 165

London Heathrow (LHR) to Palma Mallorca Palma Mallorca (PMI)

Departure (LHR): May 16, 4:05 PM BST (afternoon)

Awesome. I have 5 hours to get lost in. Like really. I imagine a significant portion of this will be me wandering around aimlessly looking for my next flight because I'll have to change terminals and going through security. Again. Not to mention I'll be half dead because I just spent 8 hours on a plane not all of which could be sleeping and when I land, it'll technically be 5 in the morning where I'm at now.

Arrival (PMI): May 16, 7:30 PM CEST (evening)

This is about 2 hours. Which isn't bad. Though I wonder how the people in charge of this thing'll find me. I won't be the only person there after all.

The return trip will be even more fun!

United Airlines # 929

London Heathrow (LHR) to Chicago O'Hare International (ORD)

Departure (LHR): June 14, 7:45 AM BST (morning)

What... am I going to do for 10 hours? lol Can I sleep at the airport and not have my stuff stolen?

Arrival (ORD): June 14, 10:28 AM CDT (morning)

I like how the timezone shift only really makes it 3 hours that passed between when I leave and come home. Even though I would've been on the plane for like 8 hours. Isn't that hilarious? XD

God help me. While I've been made to feel significantly better about this whole thing last time I was talking about it, the fact is, I'll still be doing it alone with no prior experience whatsoever. And internationally at that.

Right now I'm concerned with packing, though... And it's the whole "what can I take on the plane" thing that's getting me right now. Granted, I don't think I'll have much of an issue there, but the whole 3oz liquids/gels thing might be my only problem. Like how much is 3 ounces? Lol

I dunno. And I have five days left to get everything ready. Awesome.

When you get to London, people will treat you like an idiot because you're American, and it'll be funny.

Airports are not magical mazes. You'll find your way from A to B easily.

LOL That's a wonderful way to treat people. I bet you'd be one of them if you didn't know me.

I just hope they're all willing to help more than mock because otherwise that'll be really annoying. XD I'm not even one of those setereotypical Americans you see on TV and wherever, either, though I'm sure no one'll know that by looking at me.

Maze or no maze, it's still a huge ass freaking building. But I suppose you're right. We'll just see how things go when I get there.

Don't worry, even Skip Rogers misses a landing now and then. I'm sure he misses flights too now and then.

And you're obviously smarter than Skip Rogers, so you should be fine.

Then again, the stuff stuck on the botton of my shoes in smarter than Skip Rogers.

You'll still be fine anyway.

That probably didn't help or make you feel any better, so I'll shut up now.

Echoing EmP's sentiment, there's no worry of getting lost in an airport. In Western countries, they are flooded with signs. You can't look one way or the other without being directed where you are going.

Jetlag's tricky, though it varies per person. I tend to be hit rather badly by it going west to east. If I fly from the Netherlands to the US, for instance, it's merely late evening there when my body feels it's in the middle of the night, so I'm wasted, but a good night's sleep resolves it.

Going home, on the other hand, my body feels it is late evening when in fact in the Netherlands, the next day is dawning. That's where mass confusion follows. You can either try and stay awake until the next evening, which seriously screws up your sleep schedule, or you can give in and take a nap during the day, which also seriously screws up your sleep schedule. :P

Who's Skip Rogers?

WORLD VIDEO GAME CHAMPION!

Or so he claims in his videoes. But from his footage, you can see he really isn't very good at video games.

Yeah, I got a feeing jetlag's going to kill me. Hopefully not until I reach Spain, though.

As an aside, I was looking at Heathrow's website and it seems to be that I won't have to change terminals after all. At least I don't think so... They're stupid terminal finder is kind of dumb, because it only seems to list for destinations and not arrivals, but I checked with both airlines regardless and both said 1, which, if it counts for departures, too, saves me a hell of a lot of time and worry.

I just hope that I read that all correctly.

...and what's this crap about self check-in? Well, I suppose I'll be doing more of that here, so I'll have a better idea, but I sure hope that whatever my e-ticket says is everything I need. Concerning seat assignments, though, I find it odd that mine for United was given already but not bmi... which can only lead to confusion for me.

Oh, well; I'll still have 5 hours. Should be enough time. lol
