God damn it's cold... I thihk today was the coldest day of the winter... and I was out all day. I don't think it ever got any warmer than -5ºF the whole day, and I have no idea what the wind chill was like. Like... it's almost incomprehensible... It's so cold, the wind burns your lungs! It's hard to freaking breathe. It just makes you want to roll over and die or something... Or just sleep all day. What's more, the snow that's continued to build has frozen so thoroughly that it's like walking on ice, which, while you won't sink a foot into the ground when walking through it, is also extremely slippery.
Good lord...

honestgamer - January 15, 2009 (05:13 PM) I've only been through a day or two like that in my whole life here in Oregon, and I had the luxury of being inside for most of it. Now that I live at the coast, such things are ancient history. Today I was walking outside with a jacket on and I had to take it off because I was getting way too hot. Walking around in jeans and a t-shirt felt about right. Meanwhile, 120 miles to the east where my folks live is frigid. Not as cold as you're experiencing, but much cooler than it is here. |

overdrive - January 15, 2009 (07:42 PM) No shit.... You're in what? Ill. or Ind.? That's not far from Ohio, where I'm at. My day started off with me going to work. Except, due to snowplows and natural accumulation, I couldn't get onto the road. So I had to walk up to my place, grab my snow shovel and clear out a place for me to get off the driveway. I was pissed off all day to varying degrees because of that experience..... |

Genj - January 15, 2009 (09:18 PM) I like it when it's cold. I feel very comfortable with just a wool coat, no hat, no gloves. |

overdrive - January 15, 2009 (09:55 PM) Well, then, Genj, maybe you should have been shoveling my driveway!!! I didn't have gloves and I got to spend the next 15-30 minutes with agonizing-turning-to-dull pain in my fingers from the fucking cold. After getting the job done, it was about five minutes before I even tried to drive because my fingers were essentially useless. I really could have used a sacrificial lamb for that..... |

overdrive - January 15, 2009 (10:50 PM) According to Yahoo.com's temperature gauge, it's currently -11 in my neck of the woods..... |

wolfqueen001 - January 16, 2009 (10:43 AM) Huh. That's interesting, Jason. I would've thought it'd be much colder on the coast. And that sucks, OD. We probably really do share similar temps. It was like -12 when I posted this last night. Right now Yahoo says it's like -1. I honestly don't know how accurate Yahoo is, nor do I know wheether it factors in wind chill (I don't really see it there), but well... there you go, I guess. |

zippdementia - January 17, 2009 (12:57 PM) The Oregon weather is VERY strange, and no Winter has illustrated that as much as this one. Yesterday, in Portland where I'm at, we had a BLISTERINGLY hot afternoon, followed by cool breezes and much sun, followed by a bit of freezing rain, followed by 40mph winds, followed by a beautifully clear and mildly warm night. |
