Man, I'm such a wimp.

I ran this 5km run/walk thing for hunger this morning, and I found out I could barely run it at all. I swear, even though I stretched and everything, I could barely run maybe 300 feet before my legs seized up and my chest started aching. I'm not sure why this happened. I mean, I know I don't have any endurance for running whatsoever, but I've never been that bad before. I guess it could have been a combination of it being early in the morning, me not eating anything beforehand, and me still carrying this annoying dry cough from when I was "sick" a few weeks ago.

Oh, well, I guess. I just ended up trying to power walk most of the way, intermittently trying to jog a bit to stay ahead of some people. I finished in like 48 minutes, which is good for me, I think. I also didn't finish last, which was my entire goal in the first place.

Then I discovered that we only really probably ran about 4.19km, so that's kind of depressing. Not even three miles.

Somehow I managed to fall, too. It was hilarious. There was this part where we had to run through some grass for a short distance, but there was this ridge between the grass and the pavement, and I was like "...I'm going to trip on this, aren't I?" even though I was trying not to. And guess what? I did! I fell slow-mo style and kind of scraped my hands a little, muttered "This is lame" and got back up again. XD

After finishing, I ate breakfast with two of my friends (who also ran it), then crashed for 2 hours. Which is fantastic because I have a paper to write.

It's bad to not eat anything before running distances. You don't want to pig out right before but proper preparation (right foods, stretches, etc) is essential or you're just asking for trouble.

I made a goal to run the New York Marathon (which took place today) almost a year ago but haven't been training much so decided not to bother. Maybe next year.

Heh. Well, that's probably it, then. The not eating thing. And just me not being used to it. I've never actually attempted anything like this before, and I've always despised running... it's just... so hard.

At any rate, I don't think I really had time to eat beforehand... or at least I didn't prepare to. The dining halls are closed on weekends until 10:30, and the race started at 10, so the only thing I could've really eaten anyway were these snack food things I have in my room. Though I suppose those would've been better than nothing.
