Halo 4 is not coming to PC; other genres considered for the franchise
No Master Chief for PC gamers, but Halo looks to expand
Halo 4 will not be released on the PC, a Microsoft representative has confirmed. Talking to The Penny Arcade Report, the rep stated that the company is pursuing new ways to increase the popularity of the series, but bringing the latest instalment to the PC is not part of that strategy.
"Halo 4 was designed specifically for Xbox 360, and while we're always exploring new ways to expand the franchise and share the Halo experience with as many fans as possible, we do not currently have any plans to port Halo 4 to PC."
Although disappointing, the decision will probably not come as a surprise to PC gamers. Microsoft ported the first two games of the Halo series to the PC, but none since have made the jump.
Meanwhile, executive producer of Halo 4 Kiki Wolfkill has spoken to CVG about the possibilities of bringing Halo to other genres and mediums.
“I think we'd look at what the most interesting genre, medium, delivery mechanism is to tell a certain story, and if it moves the IP forward in an interesting way, we'll do it," Wolfkill said.
Wolfkill also said that Microsoft and 343 Industries, developer of Halo 4, have always had a “big vision” for the Halo Universe. The series has already seen one excursion from its FPS roots with the real-time strategy title Halo Wars, as well as entering other mediums such as its extensive series of books.
Halo 4 launched worldwide today exclusively for Xbox 360.
