1986-1990: Two new Zelda games
1991-1995: Two new Zelda games
1996-2000: Two new Zelda games, one remake
2001-2005: Five new Zelda games, three ports, one port with remixed dungeons, and one collector's edition
2006: Already two new Zelda games
Remember when a new Zelda release was special? Remember when new Zelda releases were brand new games and not rehashes of the old ones? Yeah, those were the days...

overdrive - March 28, 2006 (12:09 PM) You know......I'd never thought about that, but you're right. Some of the ideas seem to be very good for the Zelda games, but one could say that Link's Awakening was what LttP would have been if it hadn't been released so early in the SNES' development (and if it had been on a different system). And one could say both Ages and Seasons were clones of LA, but with a few new twists, mainly revolving around link cables. Then, Four Swords (GBA LttP) was just Nintendo pimping out Link for their link cable, while that Gamecube game that used the GBA just seemed to be another way for Nintendo to cash in on Link's popularity to sell the compatible nature of GBAs and the GameCube. I haven't played Minish Cap yet, but from what I've read, they seem to replace a lot of dungeon exploration with making you collect a bunch of items to unlock paths to other items. I'm sure I'll like it to a degree, but it won't be special or anything unless I'm way off in that assessment. I've never played Windwaker, but my best friend who's a huge Zelda freak has.....and he never said anything that made me think it was memorable in any way. And while a lot of people love it, I just never saw the appeal in Majora's Mask. I give them credit for doing something different with the series......I just didn't find what they did to fit my tastes in adventure gaming. Really, of all the Zelda games, the only ones I'd consider iconic were the two NES ones, Ocarina of Time and a combination of LttP and Link's Awakening (because, as mentioned before, LA was the more recent, more polished take on the LttP system of doing things on a different gaming system. |
