I love comparing old work of mine to my most recent, it's a good way to see if I'm improving or not:

Looks good. I think the punching animation could use a little tweaking, though.

Hm, could you elaborate on that? I tried to keep it as short as possible as to not ruin its use as a quick jab in game, so if it's a frame issue, I guess it's just stuck that way.

Why does he use only the one fist to punch? It seems like he should use both? I think the amount of time he spends punching is just about perfect, though.

Well, it's just supposed to be a quick jab. This is only one of many moves (some where he'll use the other fist, or both, and legs, and so on) so I guess it was mostly just a stylistic thing. I actually didn't think of having him alternate between jabs, so I might try it out and see how it looks.

Also, I updated the post with a slightly new version . His diagonal punch seemed to look like it was extending further so I fixed that.

Well, I'm not sure if the blur effect is neccessary during the jab animation. Looks a bit wierd to me.

EDIT:

On second thought, I think the blur effect during the jab could use a little tweaking. It seems to extend too far compared to the non-blurred jab. The animation might work better without the non-blurred arm.

Well, removing the actual 'jab' part made it a bit too quick, so then I tried having a degrading blur effect, like Yamazaki from KOF/Fatal Fury. The result made me laugh a little:

Yeah, the result that made you laugh has the same effect on me. Not an improvement. :-)

Oooooh.

I like him. Geeeeez.

He's cute! What's his name?

Currently I've decided to name him "AUTO," as in "automatic."

Nice. Personally, I prefer the second one where the fist is just a blur. Gives a better feeling of speed.
