it's probably suicide that i just bought a PS3 but i don't care. i was thinking of waiting but i just don't see a price drop happening anytime soon if Sony's arrogance has led me to believe. if i felt inclined, i could maybe just sell it off and get a 360. i don't see that happening right now. we'll see in about a year. if MGS4 gets pushed back to '08 and possibly goes multiplatform, then Sony is fucked. even if MGS4 gets released this year as a PS3 exclusive, i could still see it being overshadowed by Halo 3 but at least it will give Sony some ground to cover. i think a 360 price cut of $50 seems logical as it's been out for almost two years already. then again, they aren't being pressured to do so.
anyways, so i got my PS3. this thing is fucking heavy and huge and it dwarfs my Wii. i like the glossy look and the silver trimmings. it looks expensive but it also looks gaudy too. Sony takes the crown for the ugliest console of this generation. then again, Sony's consoles never really looked all that great anyway. no personality to them.
setting it up wasn't all that exciting like the Wii was. it's just like any other console i've hooked up before. updating the firmware was a minor pain though. it was slow, but not as slow as the Wii updates.
i am surprised they had a decent amount of stuff on the PlayStation Store. didn't think there would be much, but it's pretty decent so far. i just spent 2 hours all last night downloading game demos and trailers yet there is still half of it left that i need to get. the bigger demos took at least 10 minutes to download and install. i was able to play one round of Motorstorm and look at the Resistance trailer. it looks fine on a standard TV, but i'm probably gonna get those HDMI cables so i can play it on my widescreen LCD.
Motorstorm impressions: the graphics are fluid and the physics look more realistic than Gran Turismo 4 but i didn't think the graphics really blow GT4 out of the water. it does look like a couple notches up. maybe it'll look alot better in HD. i can't really comment on the gameplay all too much, but i didn't do too well steering on those sharp turns. i finished 14th on my first try. what the game needs is rumble. if it doesn't use the sixaxis it should at least use rumble right? and no sony...rumble is not last-gen, idiots.

honestgamer - March 01, 2007 (09:04 AM) Motorstorm pisses me off. Driving over a pebble and exploding is not my idea of a good racing game. I want arcade action. The game has that in a way. It's easy to go flying into the air, launching over your opponents and driving like a maniac, but then you land and explode. Or you go over a rock and catch more air than you should and fly off a cliff. So it's designed like an arcade racing game, only it's more like a sim. That doesn't make sense and the game is frustrating because of it. No thanks! |

pup - March 02, 2007 (10:23 PM) Motorstorm does use the six-axis, and it's terrible. If you don't hold the controller perfectly level, your vehicle whips to the side and off a cliff. As for the physics, they are definitely not up to par with GT. Some of the lighter cars spend most of the time flying up into the air, and floating back down. Try steering in mid-air and you'll see that you can even turn without touching the ground. |

carcinogen_crush - May 16, 2007 (12:27 PM) Not only does Motorstorm fail, so does Resistance. Who cares if I can use the 'Auger'? When the game's as stale as it is, not me, that's for sure. Unfinished piece of shit, anyway. Little Big World or whatever looks kind of neat, though. |
