Twilight Princess v.s Ocarina of Time
January 11, 2007

by now i've clocked in almost 50 hours on Twilight Princess. i think i'm pretty close to the end. so far i've got 15 heart containers, 2 pieces shy of number 16. i've collected 38 poe souls, collected 9 bugs. seems like i'm about 65%-70% complete on finding everything. this game is just as lengthy as Ocarina of Time was, maybe just a tad shorter. i'm pretty sure i will fight Ganon eventually. that's no secret. surprisingly, the game only mentions him once(about halfway through the game) and i have yet to meet him. i liked how Ganon was established as the main villian from the outset in OoT. it just made his prescence all the more frightening. there have been some wonderful cinematics in TP, but that was early on in the game. the narrative seems a little bit less weightier than OoT. it doesn't reveal too much. i like some of the new gadgets in TP. they are a nice addition to the series. i also like what they did with the existing weapons(using iron boots on the magnetic fields etc.) the dungeons are good; mostly straight-forward but not as memorable. as charming as the Forest Temple is with all the monkeys and whatnot in TP, it just doesnt compare to the dank and darker FOrest Temple in OoT with it's twisting corridors and Phantom Ganon. that's another thing i prefer OoT over TP--the bosses were more challenging. the boss in the Fire Temple was pretty menacing in TP, Volvagia in OoT was too but he was much harder to beat. so what is my verdict here? Ocarina of Time wins by a mile. Twilight Princess is not the best Zelda game Nintendo has ever made as Nintendo has claimed but it's still pretty damn good if it's not compared to Ocarina. i'm saying all this and i haven't beaten Twilight Princess yet. i don't think my opinion will change even if the final battle or ending turns out to be way better than OoT. i'm not betting on it.
