the last fiend, The Trumpeter in SMT: Nocturne is pissing me off. if everyone's HP is above critical then my main guy(the one that happens to have the most HP) gets killed instantly with his death horn but the trick is to try and get one of my other character's HP in the yellow so The Trumpeter will pick off the weak one instead. i haven't really been forced to fuse monsters since i fought the first fiend because i needed a Media spell. that was waaay in the beginning of the game. somehow i don't think Media or Mediarama is going to work here as it'll keep my party's HP up, thus my main character will die again. argghh, you got me good this time! i also hate that i can't skip that section and find some kind of save point in that area. everytime i die, i have travel a long way just to get there again. annoying..but i still love this game.

If I remember correct, you can beat the dude utterly cheaply by just going to your compendium and buying a weak monster and just making sure it's alive for the "kill round" and then bringing it back to life when needed.

The first time I fought Trumpeter, I must have got him down to around 100 HP because he healed himself back to full health. I was so pissed. But yeah it's important to have one party member designated as the sacrifice. I used one demon that was about 8 levels lower than the rest of my party so that he'd be likely to have the lowest HP most of the time. It's also a good idea to have a party that can nullify (or even better: repel) a variety of elemental attacks (since Trumpeter uses pretty much every element) to cut down his turns. I was pretty fusion crazy in that game so my party was a bunch of the Rider fiends with a variety of high level healing, stat, and offensive spells.

Also, you can skip the Fiends since they are entirely optional. When it asks you whether you want to stay, you can say no and try to escape (there's something like a 50% chance that you won't be able to). You can go back and try again whenever.

thanks for the tips guys.

i was wondering why i couldn't escape that time.. i thought it was because he was the last fiend so it was unescapable..i'll try again. i know this is all optional, but i want to try and get the true demon ending. is it worth it?
