9 months going before the true battle begins part 3

i'll try to make this entry a little shorter. my impressions so far and outlook on the PS3

PS3 - i wanted a PS3 more than the Wii at that time. somehow the presale date slipped under my radar and it was already too late. without a preorder there was no way i was going to camp out for it. it was still hard to find a PS3 for about a couple months then all of a sudden stores were stockpiling on them.

by that time, all the bad press and sony losing exclusives left and right made me debate for months whether to go with 360 or PS3. despite being overhyped and overpriced and how poorly it had performed saleswise, i blindly bought a PS3 in March anyway. the deciding factor was brand loyalty. the PS2 was by far my favorite system of all the last-gen systems. also i heard that they were going to make backwards compatibality limited on future PS3's which made my decision to get one even sooner. in hindsight i should have waited a couple months later for the price drop as they haven't taken out the PS2 chip yet.

i've played my PS3 a little bit more than the Wii recently although overall i still like the Wii better. i teared through Resistance which is almost worth buying a PS3 for. MotorStorm, the most anticipated PS3 game at that point, failed to live up to the hype. i wanted to like this game but it just wouldn't let me. the best game on PS3 is Ninja Gaiden Sigma, an upgraded port of an 3 year old Xbox game is indicative of how pathetic Sony's software library is at the moment.

if i did own a 360, the 3rd party games being released on PS3 would be irrelevant because i would probably prefer buying them for 360. since i don't have a 360, there is still enough games to look forward to on PS3 from 1st and 3rd parties. more than anything, it's Sony's 1st party games that makes the biggest impression on how well the PS3 will do this year but so far i am only mildly impressed..

if Lair or Heavenly Sword turn out to be another MotorStorm, the PS3 is in deep trouble. Uncharted and Rachet & Clank shows promise though. any game from Naughty Dog or Insomniac will be exceptionally good. it's only natural since they've been developing on Playstation hardware for years. developers like Ninja Theory, or Evolution Studios are still unproven. sony will have a rough christmas
