9 months going before the true battle begins part 2

(continuing where i left off..)

the first game i popped into the Wii was Wii Sports, naturally. It was a different experience but to me it was only just an appetizer for the main course. Twilight Princess was the game I was more hyped up about but after a few hours I wouldn't touch it again for the next 3 weeks. Instead all that time was spent playing the simple yet charming Wii Sports which I never thought would last this long. both of these games had enough momentum to carry Wii into the New Year. There were a few other games that kept me busy well into March but ever since then my time spent with Wii have been sporadic. Super Paper Mario was the last game I played and that was awhile ago.

If it wasn't for the all the media hype and it's unconventional controller, the Wii would be no different from the GameCube. The library of games are roughly the same. Majority of third party games still suck and quite possibly a bit more horrid than GC's offerings while Nintendo's games are still of exceptional quality but we have yet to see some original franchises the likes of Pikmin or Animal Crossing.

yet i'm optimistic with the Wii's line-up later this year starting with Metroid Prime 3. i wasn't too excited about it earlier but that has changed now that Mother Brain makes an appearance known in this game as Aurora. If they can make the story/scenario interesting which Echoes was lacking of and if the wiimote controls live up to expectations, i will have no doubt this game will be just as good if not better than the first Metroid Prime. so far from what i seen of the teaser vids, it's lookin' good.

The rest of Nintendo's fall lineup is looking stronger than their 2002 lineup with more games to play. Endless Ocean might not be the new Nintendo franchise everyone was hoping for, but graphically it looks good. otherwise Wii are getting better than GameCube versions of Nintendo's hit franchises. We get Mario Galaxy, SSMB Brawl, Fire Emblem, Endless Ocean, Battalion Wars 2 while GameCube owners during that same time period only got Metroid Prime. So far the Wii has been a little lackluster this year but that is all about to change in the coming months. The Wii will finish strong this year. A GameCube repeat for the time being it is not.

next up: PS3, part 3 coming soon.
