and so i've got my PS3 and a Wii but not a 360 although i would love to get one. i've had my PS3 for 5 months and i had a Wii since launch. what do i think about them so far and how they will fare this coming holiday? here's a recap of sorts.
Wii - i would have never thought the Wii would become this popular. it's funny that now during the Summer, the employees at GameStop had to put a shoddy handwritten note on the door saying "Wii's Out of Stock: Please do not ask!" or something along those lines. i know, because i worked there during the winter season and i was always tired of saying this to every customer who wanted one and half of them still didn't want to believe me.
anyway, i probably wouldn't be playing my Wii right now or i'd be searching like mad for one if i hadn't preorder Twilight Princess. Gamestop knew I had preordered something Wii related which in turn they invited me to come down to preorder the system. i was going to get Zelda first and get the Wii a couple months later. i thought maybe i could just walk into the store and pick one up without a fuss. my reasoning? nintendo claiming they would have close to a million in stock for launch and Nintendo's waning popularity in the console market. oh boy was i wrong..
to be continued.

pup - August 09, 2007 (10:40 AM) The Wii is a cool idea, and I stand behind it, but I am still not impressed. So far, we have the same staples that Nintendo has been forcefeeding us for years. More than anything, the Wii needs new IPs for the hardcore crowd, and fast. Mario will ensure that the Wii stays popular with the kids, and that is why I still fear another GameCube scenario. Then again, perhaps that's the way Nintendo wants to play. |

honestgamer - August 09, 2007 (03:04 PM) Nintendo needs new IPs for the hardcore and fast like it needs a hole in the head. The Wii isn't trying to be the hardcore system. It's trying to keep the loyal Nintendo-ites happy, but all it has to do there is produce sequels to the old familiar IPs. And if it's going to continue to produce the casual stuff that is selling the unit, the rest of its resources should go to casual games. New IPs from the hardcore can and will come from third parties. Nintendo needs to continue focusing on casual games and established IPs. Period. |

After all, many of those people grew up with Nintendo, and many are now turning their backs. Oh well, I gave up trying to understand Nintendo's motivations since the N64. |
