Finally, a reason to use my Gamespot account.

After a bit of delay, the Bash Contest results were finally posted today. I don't know if I should be surprised or not; I figured Emp and Ashy would probably beat the **** out of me, but I was amazed that I got third place. That From Russia With Love review was a last minute choice because none of my other bash reviews could fit with the contest's stipulations. Hopefully I'll have more time to prepare the next time a contest starts up there.

There was one thing found interesting (and a little disheartening). Almost all of the judges complained that the review was too lengthy/wordy/ etc. Even Usurper said the same thing weeks ago when he listed his predictions for the Bash Contest on Gamefaqs. Is my incessant blathering really dragging down my reviews? Is there something wrong with my writing style? Or am I just that cruddy of a reviewer and too delusional to admit it?

The creation of my reviews usually involves me sitting down, coming up with an intro idea, and just winging it from start to finish in a single sitting. I barely even look at what I've written anymore; if I go back to analyze, I tend to over think, start making alterations, and possibly affecting the overall flow of the review. I don't know, maybe I've gotten to comfortable with my reviewing tendencies to notice anything detrimental...

Angsty whining and self-analysis aside, I'm glad that I joined the contest. There's nothing like introducing yourself to a new reviewing community like taking third place on your first try. ^_^

There's always introducing yourself via a CRUSHING WIN!

I liked the your review, in fact, I like most of your reviews and was often gald your stuff fell on my RotD topics back on FAQs, however, it sounds like you might be stagnating slightly; something that all writers suffer from. But hey, at least you weren't told in siad competion that you deliver too much information and should write without any form of evidence in your work...

EmP, is that what they told you in the gamespot thing?

Don't worry, Disco, you're not delusional. You're one of the best writers that regularly submits to gf, but you're also a pretty good reviewer as well. Sometimes, though, succinct writing leaves a better impact than drawing things out. I wouldn't worry too much about it. If you start writing massive bibles of reviews like Tom Clark or Ashley Winchester do (not bad reviews mind you, just never-ending) then maybe you should start to worry.
