My Choice. . .

42" Panasonic Plasma with 720p and 1080i support for $1,009.99 VS 37" Sony LCD with 720p and 1080p support for $1,399.

I still have some time to swap out my set, so helpful feedback would be. . . helpful. As far as I can see, I'm happy with this purchase - but I'm curious what happens to Blu-Ray and HD-DVDs when they're viewed in 720p as opposed to 1080p.

What do you think?
Generally, I've just heard that Plasma sets have better picture in terms of response time and black levels.

Well damn. Turns out it was a JVC I was thinking of. Oh well. The picture quality is still better than the Panasonic, native 1080p and I won't have to worry as much about burn in. I swear, the amount I already have on the Panasonic is ridiculous, even following consumer guidelines of running the set at %50> brightness and contrast values.

Take that, Panasonic! Refund.

I have a panasonic 42inch and i love it. I keep hearing 1080p doesn't make a difference unless the screen is at least 50inches.

The JVC turns out to be really nice; I'm more than a little surprised. I was knocking myself for not investing in the Sharp brand for a few hundred more, but the JVC set is just as nice. The only thing that gets me is that it can only run 1080/60p and not /24p. But as far as I've read online, both the PS3 Blu-Ray player and the 360 HD-DVD drive support both of the frequencies.

A sigh of relief. : )
