The 2021 Olympics held at Tokyo opened up with a gaming overture of classic themes from classic games and other hit videogames. Athletes marched upon brandishing their flags representing each participating country into the stadium as the overture played in loop till all were introduced.
The entire list of tracks played can be seen below, courtesy of an article posted at Asia NIKKEI-
Dragon Quest - "Overture: Roto's Theme"
Final Fantasy - "Victory Fanfare"
Tales of series - "Sorey's Theme - The Shepherd"
Monster Hunter - "Proof of a Hero"
Kingdom Hearts - "Olympus Coliseum"
Chrono Trigger - "Frog's Theme"
Ace Combat - "First Flight"
Tales of series - "Pomp and Majesty"
Monster Hunter - "Wind of Departure"
Chrono Trigger - "Robo's Theme"
Sonic the Hedgehog - "Star Light Zone"
Winning Eleven (Pro Evolution Soccer) - "eFootball walk-on theme"
Final Fantasy - "MAIN THEME"
Phantasy Star Universe - "Guardians"
Kingdom Hearts - "Hero's Fanfare"
Gradius (Nemesis) - "01 ACT I-1"
NieR - "Song of the Ancients"
SaGa series - "The Orchestral SaGa - Legend of Music"
Soulcalibur - "The Brave New Stage of History"
Curiously enough, none of said tracks featured any games from Nintendo, which if it did it would most likely had included the likes of Legend of Zelda and Pokemon at the very least.
The entire scheduled article of events at the current Olympics can be seen HERE
Alas not all is closeness and rainbows, as the Olympics faced protests from angry Japanese citizens outside the stadium with boards and chants of cancelling the games. Some sites state they are doing so because of the COVID19 pandemic, but as of late, it is uncertain of what is going on over at the Japanese metropolis about such things. Really hoping the Olympics go smoothly and no grave problems arise.
Unfortunately I have not found an official youtube channel presenting the entire overture played, but no doubt it might appear one time or another. For now, wishing the best to the athletes and Olympics overall.

Masters - August 14, 2021 (07:44 PM) Lastly, and against my better judgement, watched Space Jam: A New Legacy and I will tell you...it hurts watching it. Right there with you... so, so bad. |
