Not long ago, the twitter account of Sonic Stadium posted about the Sonic movie sequel's movie sets, speculating that G.U.N, a group of antagonists featured in Sonic videogames back from Sonic Adventure 2, might just appear on said movie.
The helicopter’s decals display the alpha-numeric SA-2 – the same designation of the helicopter that was transporting Sonic at the beginning of Sonic Adventure 2!- Sonic Stadium
Not much is said or shown other than props that have been shown online about the blue blur's inevitable return to the big screen otherwise. It's still to be seen if what Sonic Stadium's statements are true to what it was unveiled, even though I would not be against it personally being that it open the door on implementing more of the Sonic games' lore into said movie.
