Ugh. I hate my school sometimes....
September 07, 2008

I swear, they rip you off your goddamn money... but don't even make it worth it.

You have to pay a fucking $1.25 just to wash your bloody laundry, and another $1 just to dry it. But that's not the best part. Oh, no. The best part is knowing damn well that two of the only three washing machines in the basement are broken down and that you'll have to wait hours just to wash your damn clothes.

And get this, too. This residence hall I'm in now costs at least $1000 more than the one I was in last year, there are at least twice as many people here, and there's one less washer/drier to do your bloody laundry in! What the hell?

Put on top of that the shoddy elevator which might break down any minute, the constantly breaking down escalators at the main building where most of the classes are held, and the bullshit amount you have to pay for a meal plan (~$3000 in most cases), for food that isn't even all that great.... Ugh. It's just a mess.

I swear, if I didn't think I were getting a good education, or I didn't have that scholarshihp, or if the people around here in general weren't helpful and nice, I'd leave.

God. They rip us out of 40 grand a year... the least they could is maintain their bloody facilities!

(Edit: Sorry for all the swearing... but God I get angry sometimes....)

PROTIP: I don't wash my clothes.

just kidding but wtf I generally spend like $5 on laundry every other week.

My dorm used to be a hotel. It's actually quite nice and they fix things fast. Thanks BU!

But it's not like you're paying the tuition. Or maybe you are.

haha I heard about some BU kids getting put up in hotels genj, you lucky fuck. but at least BC isn't in quite as much disrepair as it sounds like WQ's college is.

and haha, apologizing for swearing. that's adorable.

Nah, that's only the freshmen that luck out thanks to the holy trinity of fucking shitty freshmen dorms constantly filling up too soon. I mean literally the building I live in was a hotel awhile back, so the rooms are nice and have their own bathrooms.

I'm am paying tuition, actually. About 13grand of it. It's usually like $27k, though. Took it all out on loans..... going to regret that later.

Anyway, I'm probably exaggerating about the state of disrepair, but.. it just seems like it's bad all the time. I dunno. It's just really, really annoying.

And that is lucky, genj. Heh, though I'm inclined to agree. The freshmen dorm I had, while much, much smaller and lacking a kitchen and bathroom in each quad, was in a much better state mechanically. Of course, the rooms were smaller there, but it was only doubles and the occasional triple. Still, a lot smaller than this dorm. I'm glad I didn't have a roommate for much of the year there. >_>

Oh, yeah. And laundry techincally costs me about $3.50 every week and a half.

That actually sounds like a typical college. Crappy dorms, food, prices, etc is pretty much everywhere unless you're lucky and get a suite like I did and get friends who commute to do laundry for you.

I'm only like $20k in debt since the first two years were mostly paid for from a combination of my parents and my savings (tuition is cheap since it's a state school). After grad school it'll probably go up to about $50k, which still isn't too bad but not something I'm looking forward to, either.

Haha, I've only spent a year in a dorm, but it was pretty bad. All on-campus housing must have been designed by a evil scientist researching how to build character.

I remember when I was there someone decided to use one of the washing machines as a toilet? They never caught the person, so they never found out if it was a prank or he was desperate.

4 out of 5 showers were only able to sustain a slow, lukewarm trickle. The one good one would have an unidentifiable brown substance in it.

Anyway, I got the hell out of there because I kept getting walking pneumonia or something during finals week. I actually failed about half my classes that year because of that.

(It could have been regular pneumonia? One time I couldn't walk at all after puking in the student union.)

The dorms I stayed at didn't even HAVE washers and dryers. They were in disrepair, as well. You had to pay for your own Internet connections and the food was expensive... and poor.

Don't think for a minute that the dorms were cheap, either!

$2.25 to do a load of laundry is about $0.25 more than I pay here at the apartment complex where I live right now.

Honestly, your dorms don't sound half bad.

keep in mind that you have to live in the same cramped room as 1+ other people 24/7.

My dorm experiences were rather good. About the only problem was when some drunken yahoos took all the doors off the bathroom stalls and maintainence didn't get around to replacing them for a week.

Oh, and the broken window on the main entrance. Otherwise it was pretty good.

Pfft... I wish I'd be that low in debt coming out of college. The ways things are going now, I'll be owing like 80k in (un)subsidized and alternative loans. I really need to find a cheaper means of paying for school...

Wow, disco. That sounds horrible! I never got that sick here... I have a tendency to feel like I'm getting sick, or if I get a cold or something, the cough'll linger for weeks on end, but I attribute that to the city air or something. I dunno. Nothing like that, though...

Heh. I guess my dorms aren't that bad, then, at least. So that's something to be grateful for. But your laundry's still cheaper than mine. =P

I'm living with three other people... but the space is nice. The bedrooms (there are two) are small, but we have this huge living space, which is roomy enough. So I'm glad for that, too.

I just hate the fact that they're so negligent with maintenance... when they're charging so much to live here.

My university is like...fifteen minutes away from my house so no problems with that.

I should really go and check that place out. Been there for a loooong time and I do remember that they installed an elevator or something the last time I was there. Quite shocking.
daff daff - September 08, 2008 (12:41 PM)
Plus at least one drunk student probably took a pee in either the washer or the dryer

bluberry bluberry - September 08, 2008 (04:04 PM)
I puked on a chair once and then sent it down the elevator to the study lounge.

that's what they get for studying on a Tuesday night like losers.
