I am uncharacteristically happy today. I think it's a combination of things.

For starters, it's a really, really nice day out, which always makes me feel good. I hate winter because it's all depressing and cold... and stuff. I can't wait for spring and summer...

It could also be that I only got three hours of sleep last night, thus making me super hyper-giddy. >.>

Or it could be that my placement in the tourney is hitting me for real or something. That sort of thing tends to get obscured when it's late and you're tired... Suffice to say, I am extremely satisfied right now. It's good to know that I'm not a failure or hopeless cause and that I actually can achieve something decent. Being stuck on the bottom all the time really gets depressing after a while.

Also, the fact that my American history teacher cancelled the paper for the semester is nice. Although the only sticker there is that my papers are really the only thing I have confidence in most cases during these classes. I just never have faith in my tests for some reason, even (especially) the written ones. It's really strange, but I don't know why it's like that. Still, I'm glad for this break because God damn I have trouble writing papers in a timely manner. I mean, jeez, I'll be doing it a day or two before the thing's due - that's not healthy. >.>

It's also really, really nice out. I wish I could smell the flowers, but there aren't any yet. >.>; (

It's about time we got a break in the weather around here. At one point, it got all the way up to 55 in Milwaukee. Of course, there aren't any flowers here yet either - just a lot of garbage. Why do people think that their trash and dog crap magically disappears if they throw it in a snow bank? All it does it store for the spring. Seriously, every few steps there's a dog-made landmine.

Yeah, pup, it just got nice about a few days ago. It was like 55 today, and the wind was breezy and soft, as opposed to being harsh and gusty like it usually is in Chicago, which was really, really nice.

I know what you mean with the whole trash thing. It's annoying that people just throw there crap wherever it pleases them. I don't really see that problem with the dog shit, though. I never really notice that sort of thing... but at least I don't walk in the grass or anything, either. Granted, at least dog excement will (or should) decompose after a while. I think. Unlike people's soda cans and McDonald's bags and all that litter.

I'm pretty much the only person who prefers tests over papers. Then again I'm the only dyslexic person here so that might explain something.

and haha, I'm the exact opposite about trash. my roommate this year and I are both ridiculously messy people and our room is basically a biohazard area. putting a big crate in the middle for trash was an improvement.

Heh. Hm... Sportsman, you have dyslexia? Wow. That's great you've managed to overcome that, though, so you can do great review work and all that, though.

I think the only reason I like papers more than tests is because I have more confidence in them. With tests, especially if you get multiple choice tests where the answers can be ambiguous and rediculously difficult to discern the correct one, I tend to think I did poorly and just don't like that. With papers, at least, I can refer to my experience as a writer to give me faith in myself regarding them. Don't know why it's less so with essay questions... probably because you only have a small time in which to write a good, well-thoughtout essay as opposed to a week or two to write a research paper, with which you can draft and edit repeatedly as long as you don't waste time with it (like I tend to do >.>).

Anyway, heh. I'll admit my room's not exactly clean (clothes everywhere and such), but I at least try to throw away my garbage. This room really needs to be vaccuumed, though. >.> I don't have a roommate anymore. She moved to a different dorm for some reason. Probably because she was two years older and felt that she didn't belong here or something (I tried much harder to keep this room clean while she was here).

I used to have so much trouble writing that I would often have to say my paper into a recorder and then write it. Now I suck big time at writing but can for the most part write without needing to dictate it to myself. It also explains why I'm the slowest reader ever and why it sometimes takes me forever to write a review and it still doesn't come out the way I want. But hey, I'm a math/philosophy major and the latter requires extensive writing and I'm surviving. It takes me longer than average but luckily my thinking and analyzing abilities are above most people to compensate for that.

I was never officially diagnosed with dyslexia mainly because my parents are the arrogant type who refuse to believe that anything is wrong with me (although dyslexic people are usually more artistic and creative than most). Many doctors and teachers in the past have come to this conclusion and although I don't think my case is too bad I definitely have something.

Wow. Well, it's good that you've learned to cope with it, even better that you've proven to be just as successful as anyone else, despite the slower pace of things you need to take.

What really matters, though, especially with philosophy, is that you understand and can analyze the material, which you can do quite well. That this hasn't really disrupted your cognitive abilities or interfered with what you want to do is fantastic. It's another case that shows that just because you have a disability doesn't mean you can't succeed as well as anyone else.

I can also sympathize with you to some extent, at least with the reading slowly thing. I've got awful vision; it's not the same thing as dyslexia, not by a long shot, but it's enough that it sometimes takes me hours to read something that should only take just one hour, I think. It's also my reason for not driving a car. I think if I really wanted to, I could drive, just with special instruments for magnification and whatever, but I just think it's too risky regardless.

Well dyslexic people think in pictures, so that's why my analyzing and visual skills are way above the average person's. Expressing myself by writing and reading has always been a struggle for me, but I don't have it nearly as bad as others do so this isn't too much of a problem for me. Learning all the math symbols in calc 5 is tough but the more visual courses are a piece of cake for me.

Although it does frustrate me sometimes that I can't express myself in writing as well as I want to. They say a picture is worth one thousand words and it's tough to write all of that out. =[

Technically multivariable is the last one, but differential equations is generally considered to be calc 4. Then we have advanced calculus for engineering, which is basically partial differential equations with engineering applications (for mechanical engineers only I think) and mathematical analysis for math majors, which is also often called calc 5.

Hm... I see. Well, it's good you've learned to deal with it the way you have. Sucks you can't quite express yourself the way you might want, but at least you have the visual skills to help back that up.

Math gives me a headache... Calc would be a nightmare... Kudos to both of you; I salute you, I really do. >.<;
