Review by Jason Venter
February 26, 2006

Kazuma Takatsuki leads a life most single males would kill for. He works at an Italian restaurant in Italy and speaks the language fluently. As the establishment’s sommelier, he gets to hobnob with its most prestigious clients. When he tells them what wine goes well with their food, they listen because he has a sexy accent. He also happens to have a past that includes a relationship with a beautiful young woman named Sumika Ichikawa. As Do You Like Horny Bunnies? 2 begins, she struts back into his life with sex appeal to spare and an offer he can’t refuse: return to Japan with her, work at an exclusive restaurant and have sex with her whenever he likes.

If the premise is enough to make you envious, then the details that follow will turn your skin positively green. Though Kazuma went back for the promise of sex with the one lady, several other females all crave his affection. None of his smoking hot coworkers want anything but to satisfy his lustful desires. This could only happen in a hentai game.

With that in mind, prepare yourself for the usual roster. Five adoring females are just barely enough to satisfy the required stereotypes, after all. First you have Sumika, who I already mentioned. She’s the oldest of the girls and she has the charm of maturity (and a magnificent bosom). Then there’s cheerful Madoka, the outgoing and energetic girl with big breasts. Next you have Makoto. She’s noteworthy because she has even bigger breasts that also happen to lactate. Misuzu is the ice queen with big breasts. Finally, Shiori is the young girl who has a simple charm about her that you just can’t help but love. She also has (are you ready for this?) big breasts.

With the standard assortment of horny babes account for, the game tends to other matters. Gameplay follows a set path except at a few key points, where your decisions affect the course of the plot (and the amount of skin you see). Sometimes, the choices presented are obvious. If you’re making strides with a girl who seems to have a slight interest in a domineering male, for example, punishing her when she won’t fix your supper is clearly the way to go. However, you also get options such as “What room do you want to go to now?” When you’re presented with three menu options, it all feels a bit like luck of the draw.

Of course, that’s really all it is until you’ve played through a few times. The developers realized this, and so the standard option to fast forward through repeat scenes is available with a simple right-click. You can also remove pesky text boxes with the same button, should you find that the simple font is blocking the sight of some nice breasts. I keep coming back to the breasts, and there’s a reason. Most of the scenes in this game center around either voluptuous bosoms or cherries streaming bits of crimson. Just to spice things up, there are also plenty of pictures of each girl sucking on swollen members. Who can ever get enough of that?

For starters, me. I didn’t find much to enjoy in about half the shots, but the remaining percentage did the job just fine. The art style here has been applied in plenty of other titles, but this time you have the occasional bit of jiggling. Each of the girls has two animated scenes available for unlocking, and you can’t get them all in one attempt. That means you’ll be flashing through the text on more than one occasion. This is where some of the fun lies. Stereotypes they may be, but each of the girls has a way of growing on you if you delve deeply into her story. Those who just play these games for the cartoon nudity--and you know you’re out there--are missing half the experience. Well, okay… a third of it.

I should also mention that because Do You Like Horny Bunnies? 2 is a sequel (the ‘2’ in its title should have tipped you off), there’s some fan service. If you played the original, you’ll recognize two of the characters from that game. They engage in a bit of unexpected sex, which you get to watch unfold if you play your cards right. To me, this felt like a bit of an afterthought, but it was still something I appreciated because it showed that someone took this game’s pedigree seriously (how you can take anything about hentai seriously is perhaps a topic best saved for another day).

Graphics and sound are another sign that attention was paid to important details. There are only twelve musical compositions here (none of them vocal), but the range they cover definitely helps the story along. If you’re chatting with one of the leading ladies and she decides to say something mischievous, the background tunes change accordingly. It’s a nice touch, as are the environments you’ll see. Someone at Zyx really knows how to color glass properly. You’ll see surprisingly detailed paintings reflected in glass, as well as lamp shades and other furniture while in the distance, a placid shoreline extends toward a starry sky. That’s just one illustration, and there are enough others like it to really give the game a charming feel.

At the end of the day, though, Do You Like Horny Bunnies? 2 is just a hentai game. It won’t change how you feel about the genre, for better or for worse. The girls are hot, the nudity is doled out at a reasonable pace and the general tone isn’t as disgusting as you’ve no doubt seen in other genre offerings. This is one game that’s content to tread water near the top of its class. Sometimes, that’s all you need.
