I still remember the day hearing that there was going to be a 3D Mario game. I figured it was just a rumor, I enjoyed Mario games, but a 3D Mario game called Super Mario 64, sounded like a joke to me. Still I imagined how great it would be, and when the day came where Mario 64 was released, that dream was reality except better. I was actually playing a 3D game with my favorite character. Now that fantastic game, has been brought to a little something we called our “Nintendo DS”, and has been advanced to making it better than ever. This is real. Well that leads to Super Mario 64 DS, imagine it with the graphics increased with two screens that one contains the game and the other a map. You might think it is the impossible but oh yes, it is possible, and here is what I think of it.

Well everyone knows on your little gameboy you used to own, did not have the best graphics ever, but it was still pretty awesome right.. Now imagine the Nintendo 64’s Super Mario 64’s graphics increased 100%. That is freaking crazy right. Well its true. The graphics are superb. Of course, the graphics are better on the game screen than the map screen. The map is very clear though and you can tell exactly where your at. Now with the game, everything has every little detail you can think of for stuff. Its simply smashing! You will not ever seen any pixels and also I have noticed Mario is more rounded out from the old game. They almost look real!

Everyone I know say the controls are hard to use. There is about fifty points I want to point out here but I will only state a few. In the options you can change your control settings. You do not have to use the touch screen to move around. Also use the thumb strap. It makes things so simple to move around almost like you have an analog stick on your DS. The controls will take getting used too. After about two days you will have the hang of the controls and they wont seem the bit hard at all.

I figured I would throw this section is since everyone seems to think this game is the exact port of Super Mario 64. Well I am sorry but you are far from correct. Of course this game has a lot of the old stuff, that is why it has the name Mario 64, just like the old one. Everything is different though, you have new missions, new levels, and you can use more characters. Four characters in total and on the old one you can only use Mario. The graphics are different, the sound is different, the storyline is the only thing that is close to the same, and even that is different. So this is not a exact port, and even if it was, you would still love to play this game on a handheld. So if you have played the 64 version, get this too.

This is another one of those huge increments in this game. The audio is incredible. It is like having surround sound right here in my hands. If you are in the car you better turn it down because everyone will be able to hear it. There is a lot of multiple noises through out the game. Mario jumping, Someone hitting something, about everything in this game makes a noise, it’s own unique noise, even when your not touching it, they are snoring while they sleep. Also they brought some of the old songs back from the original except they are remixed. It gives Mario 64 a new vibe to it and you will definitely love it.

One of the best features of this game is the mini games in the rec room. You start out with two mini games per character. So all in all you start out with 8 mini games. You can win more mini games through out the game. At the start when you choose adventure mode go to the rec room and there you can choose lots of entertaining games. Mario’s games are mostly lost of clicking games like keeping Mario in the air and such. Luigi’s all have to deal with cards rather it is memory matching or clicking pairs. Yoshi’s includes thought and mind, with also speed, and last Wario’s are all skilled, which you will have to practice at to complete his mini games.

If you own a Nintendo DS, this should be the first game you buy. Do not even hesitate over buying it. When you get it, play it because it is going to last you a while and you will enjoy it. How could you pass this game up for only 30 bucks, yes, compared the crappier old one which was 50 bucks when it came out. I beg you for your own sake to buy this game. Thanks!
