Seiken Densetsu III, the third installment in the generally well regarded Mana series from Square Enix, has long been one of the most beloved entries in the series. It has also been unavailable outside of Japan, which might lead one to speculate that the many people who have played and loved the game throughout the world at some point resorted to downloading fan-translated ROMs.

As of today, that less than ideal method of playing the game is no longer necessary, because Square Enix has finally released Seiken Densetsu Collection in North America and Europe. In those regions, the compilation is known as Collection of Mana, and Seiken Densetsu 3 has been renamed to Trials of Mana.

Included in the compilation are Final Fantasy Adventure (Game Boy), Secret of Mana (SNES) and the aforementioned Seiken Densetsu 3 (SNES). Though the Mana series continued from there in subsequent years, with additional installments and remakes appearing on a variety of platforms, that later output is not included. Today's release is all about preserving the original versions of those first three installments.

Available right now on the Nintendo eShop, Collection of Mana is priced at $39.99, a number that feels like it should have been chopped in half if the publisher were committed to providing consumers with a genuinely solid deal. A physical version does is on the way in August and is available in multiple places online at the same price, including on the Square Enix store.

Seiken Densetsu Collection was originally released in Japan not long after the Switch launched in that region in 2017, and appears to have come west now only because Square Enix decided to release a remake of the third game for current consoles and PC in 2020 and could use the promotional boost. Will you be adding it to your digital library?
