God Eater 3, Bandai Namco's answer to the Monster Hunter franchise, is about to see its third installment release in Japan. And what comes out there in late 2018 will come out here at some point in 2018, according to a new press release Bandai Namco Entertainment America issued this evening.

God Eater 3 will be available on PlayStation 4 and Steam, with no word of an Xbox One edition. Bandai Namco also used the moment to introduce the Ashlands and Ash Aragami, Adaptive God Eaters and two new God Arc types.

Throughout the world, uninhabitable regions known as the Ashlands have forced humanity to live in underground shelters (or "Ports," if you like to use the words you'll see in the game). God Eaters venture forth into the Ashlands and do battle with fierce creatures known as Ash Aragami, including the likes of Anubis and Ra.

Hugo Pennywort is one of a new breed of God Eater, known as "adaptive." He is more like an Aragami than a straight up God Eater, which means he is stronger and deadlier in combat and can resist the deadly air flowing through the Ashlands.

Weapons, known as God Arcs, have always been a part of the God Eater's lifestyle. There are two new ones of note: the Ray Gun, which provides powerful ranged attacks, and the Biting Edge. The latter is a dual-bladed weapon, handy for your stabbing and slashing needs.

Finally, Bandai Namco mentioned two new techniques. The Engage System lets players gain team boosts when they stay close to one another in battle against the Aragami. The Accelerator Trigger is a type of passive skill, and it sounds like different abilities will trigger when certain actions are performed.

You can see the game in action in the trailer embedded above. Have you played any of the prior God Eater games?
