Final Fantasy XV Pocket Edition HD delivers a miniature encore performance

The cute little mobile take on Final Fantasy XV got a fresh coat of paint for its console appearance.

Final Fantasy XV Pocket Edition HD, a chibi-styled take on Square Enix's epic adventure with a slightly shorter name, is now available to download and enjoy on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. A Switch version is also coming soon.

Besides featuring artwork its developer describes as "adorable," Final Fantasy XV Pocket Edition HD sports "casual" controls that should make the adventure accessible for younger and/or less experienced audiences. It's still a big adventure, but everything was shrunk down to work on smartphones and now it has been dressed up a bit again.

"In Final Fantasy XV Pocket Edition HD, fans and newcomers alike can follow the journey of crown prince Noctis and his brothers in arms, Prompto, Ignis and Gladius, with fully voiced key event scenes and faithfully recreated battles," states today's press release. "All of the treasured moments from Final Fantasy XV, like driving the Regalia across breathtaking landscapes, camping, Chocobo riding and more, can be experienced in a whole new way with the game's creatively reimagined art style and in HD resolution."

If you don't have the newer platforms, you can also still enjoy the game on smartphones and tablets, in the form of Final Fantasy XV Pocket Edition. But the "HD" won't be there, and you'll have to live with that.

As an incentive to those who might be thinking about purchasing Final Fantasy XV Pocket Edition HD on consoles, Square Enix is offering a discount of up to 40% off the standard MSRP of $29.99 USD. That discount will be available through September 13, and will also be offered on a limited-time basis for the Switch version once that becomes available.
