Atlus USA today announced it will publish Etrian Odyssey Nexus in North America in 2019. The game is scheduled to arrive on February 5, 2019, with an MSRP of $39.99 USD (a European version is also on its way, with "commensurate" pricing).
Upon its release in 2019, Etrian Odyssey Nexus will be the sixth game from the franchise to arrive on that platform in North America. In Japan, it is known as Sekaiju no Meikyuu X, as it is the 10th installment in the series (counting Etrian Mystery Dungeon offshoot games, the second of which never left Japan). The initial three Etrian Odyssey games were developed for the original DS, and two of those were later remade as "Untold" games for the 3DS.
Etrian Odyssey has been very good to Atlus, as fans in Japan and elsewhere enjoy the deep, often brutal dungeon exploration and party development the franchise provides. It seems likely this will be the last big hurrah from Atlus for the aging 3DS hardware, and should allow the publisher to end an extended period of generally high-quality output on a high note.
In Etrian Odyssey Nexus, heroes have gathered in the floating city of Maginia in response to a royal decree issued by Princess Perseophone. Heroes drawn from 19 classes (spanning the entire series to date, and including the all-new "Hero" class) will venture into the archipelago of Lemuria in hopes of finding treasure and glory in the home of the Yggdrasil Tree.
Familiar talent has worked to make the final 3DS installment in the series play much like those before it, including Yuji Himukai (character designs), Shin Nagasawa (monster designs) and Yuzo Koshiro (composer). You should look forward to seeing callbacks to previous games in the form of favorite locations, and you'll find more than 100 "story-rich" quests, along with variable difficulty settings, optional auto-mapping and other such features.
The Etrian Odyssey series includes references from one game to another, but you don't need to have played any previous installments to jump into the newest one. Are you thinking about getting down to the business of exploring some dungeons when the game ships next year?
