The Gamefaqs Codes/Secrets submissions system is horribly flawed.
May 08, 2007

You'd think that Gamefaqs should list all the unlockable content in D/P past the Elite 4, but the folks in charge rejected all the codes/secrets I submitted. I took my argument here:

http://boards.gamefaqs.com/gfaqs/genmessage.php?board=2000345&topic=33382946&page=7

If these people seriously speak for Sailor Bacon, I worry about Gamefaqs' future as an informational gaming site. The design of the current codes/secrets submission system is a disservice to its users.

And I quote from the topic:

doublexp/idiotic defender of flawed system:

"Plain and simple, the cheat system is intended to useful, not fair. You can argue the standards for acceptance until you're blue in the face but they're going for useful. Concentrate on being useful, not on getting your cheat accepted because someone else's was."

Me:

"Don't try to sidestep my point. You still haven't made even a decent counter for my argument.

Besides, these are useful; they feature unlockable content that is otherwise unobtainable within the game. Posting some of the end-game unlockables while ignoring others is a disservice to Gamefaqs users who use the codes/secrets section as a reliable source of information. How can you justify that?"

doublexp:

"don't need to counter your argument. I haven't taken a contradictory position against your argument to necessitate doing that. All I'm saying is (1) that previously accepted cheats are not automatic grounds for acceptance of everything and (2) they're not going to delete other previously accepted cheats because yours are rejected. You can choose not to believe that, but that's how the system works even if it's not explicitly stated. When you hang around a board for a while and actually read what Sailor Bacon posts regarding cheats, you get a feel for the unwritten rules as well. (And in before "Why aren't they listed then?" It's because it's literally impossible to list every possible scenario.

Unless they were rejected by mistake, you'll have to do better than point to other previously accepted cheats since Sailor Bacon has already made up his mind regarding those cheats. He's the one you need to convince, not me, and he doesn't accept cheats on the sole basis that they were already accepted."

Me:

"This is no longer about cheats that have already been posted, but the acceptance of submissions that clearly follow guidelines.

But whatever. Evidently, factual-based logic has no place in the Gamefaqs Codes and Secrets submission system. I'm tired of pointing out obvious flaws and inconsistencies of the existing system that you endorse; I'll just leave this pointless topic before we waste each other's time even more. I hope for the sake of both you and your contrived explanations that I never see my rejected codes posted on the Pokemon Diamond page.

In any case, reviewing is my specialty, and I've been distracted long enough from writing my next submission. Good day, sir."

****ing idiot. If Gamefaqs permitted it, I'd take down all of my "useless" cheats just to spite them.

Yeah, I thought it was Cheats and Secrets. There's tons of stuff that are unlockables from beating games, and GFAQS has had plenty of shit submissions for that section in the past.

Also I lol'd at comparing beating game to beating stage 1 to get to stage 2. If you need to finish the game to do something, wouldn't it by definition be a secret since normally someone may finish a game and perhaps wonder "IS THERE ANYTHING NEW NOW??"

So you had something new and factual to contribute, and they turned you down? I can't even begin to guess why they turned you down. That's just stubborn and moronic.

Get this- Thinking that I might have made a mistake when I first sent in that stuff, I actually resubmitted those codes with better wording and instructions. They were still rejected. -_-;
