About Me:

Sorry, but I haven't yet shared the information about myself that would typically display here. Check back later to see if that changes, or if I instead choose to remain an enigma.

Best oldies radio call-in ever
June 26, 2009

Oldies 104.3 always was a great radio station in Chicago, before Jack FM took over and fired the great Dick Biondi. I remember as a 15-year-old who knew little or nothing about oldies, I studied and memorized hard and soon even named that 10:43 mystery tune well over half the time. The DJ's didn't talk too much but always enjoyed things. And one all-request night back around 2000 is this memorable exchange:

"Hi, who's this?"

"This is Jenny!"

"Jenny, where you from? How old are you?"

"I'm from xxx and I'm 19."

"HEEEEYYYYY!! You like RICKY MARTIN?!?!" (plays "La Vida Loca" in the background)

"You only say thanks and sorry because you're guilt tripped into it."

"Thanks for the advice. Sorry I never noticed that before."

"Dammit. Next time I get violent."

Confessions of an anti-screenshot snob
June 18, 2009

Back in the opening days of HGWars I realized my HGPoints would dwindle quickly as I made my way up the level ladder. So I worked out ways to get relatively cheap HGPoints while submitting content to the site. The easiest was to port over guides and reviews. I like to have final say on what's over here--basically, I want my -better- writing to be here, if possible. Guides got schlepped over with reviews, and they got even more HG Points.

APB for old Apple game
June 17, 2009

It was a program of a board game. You rolled a die, and you could move around a board, where you could take a vocabulary quiz, edit a newspaper article for grammar, or do other things. I remember at the end if you won, the computer said "hold still for your picture" and the screen briefly flashed white.

I'm too cheap at the moment to gamble $5 on MetaFilter so I thought I'd ask here first, then move around. Maybe I'll even post on a newsgroup or something. But I've remembered this game off and on, and I've discovered other forgotten games trying to think of this, too. I've trawled a few game lists but nothing rings a bell.

On Apple IIgs guides at this site. Or I will shortly, unless I sent the wrong-formatted file in.

I will soon expand my empire to Apple IIgs reviews. So if you click on anything Apple IIgs, you will have my review recommended.

Can ColecoVision and Vectrex be the next to fall?

You may laugh. But many are the times I was playing computer Risk and had nought but Eastern Australia and twenty armies...and soon I rolled to victory.

WANTED: funny website to waste time browsing
June 09, 2009

Must be clever and frequently updated, yet not too "current." Bias toward brain-snobbery, surreal humor, retro gaming and 80s music preferred. Moderate to low profanity, though profundity with high profanity is acceptable. Sports sites without humor, silly rants like Bill Simmons or Pat Forde's or Gregg Easterbrook's, or anything overblown need not apply.

Purdue's Spread Offense, and Creativity
June 02, 2009

I think I had another post where I talked about Purdue basketball. Here I talk about Purdue football and, namely, the spread offense. So if you hate US football, ignore this. It does have a point, though!
