Not thirty minutes ago, I decided to take out my N64 for some good ol' Star Foxing. Everything was in working order. I turned on the system and got to the start-up screen.

It shined brighter than a Lite-Brite. It was still visible, but so bright as to be annoying.

Suspicious, I turned it off and did a spit-heal (my affectionate term for when you lick your finger, run it on the cartridge's insertion point, then put it back in and watch it work). After that, I turned it on again, but it didn't need it; the console was functioning perfectly.

Except for that dang glow! I was still not worried, as I suspected my TV's brightness was too much. I turned it all the way down, then retried, but I had no success.

I was now beginning to worry a little. I tinkered the settings repeatedly, but it didn't work. I began to suspect a problem with the console. I tried all my N64 carts in the console, but they were all afflicted with unnatural brightness.

Seriously worried now, I decided to do a last-resort maneuver: shut it off, unplug it all, then plug it all back in, turn on the console, and sigh with relief as it turned back to normal.

It was still furiously bright.

Before taking out my cash and calling the Nintendo tech support hotline, I decided to ask for help at the one place I knew somebody would know something and tell me: HG. Can ANYONE tell me what to do? I don't want my console to be dying. If anybody knows how to fix it without having to wield a toolset or pay a hefty amount of moola to someone who knows how to wield one, PLEASE inform me. I really want to continue playing my N64, so any help at all will be appreciated.

	Genj - August 25, 2007 (03:11 PM) That sounds more like the TV becoming really bright (regardless of the brightness setting) rather than the console. Did you try other consoles afterwards or just watching TV stations on it to see whether the same would happen? Additionally, you may want to unplug the A/V cables and plug them back in. The screen gets all dark with my PS2 if the connection isn't in all the way.

	wayne_steed - August 26, 2007 (06:27 AM) Yeah, Espiga, I thought of the whole EBA reference, too. My song was even Walkie Talkie Man (from the first level of the game). And, yeah, Genj, it was my TV. It worked fine with the normal cable, but I tried it with my GameCube and the same thing happened. That didn't stop me from playing Paper Mario, though.
