As I'm sure every Xbox 360 owner knows, Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved (for the Xbox Live Arcade) is, like, the best top-down arena shooter I've played since Asteroids. Enemies that are smart and geometric (duh), good graphics, and a somewhat insane difficulty level that emerges the more you play make for one of the best games ever developed by a small dev team.
Now, you may say "Wayne, why on Earth are you, a Nintendo fanboy, devoting a post on your blog to a game for the competition, you Nintentraitor?!?!?!?!!1?1???!?" Well, in case you haven't heard, Geometry Wars is coming out for the Wii and DS sometime this... er, I wanna say... fall. The Wii version actually has multiple worlds you can travel to, so that's cool.
What else to say, huh? YouTube videos speak louder than type (they have sound, generally):

Halon - August 16, 2007 (03:44 PM) I played it for the PC. It's pretty good, definitely not the best shooter but still fun. |

wayne_steed - August 16, 2007 (04:28 PM) I played it as a demo at a Best Buy a few times. It was like 65,000 before I lost. I know that's bad, but I was still learning. I'm not K4rn4ge, you know. |

wayne_steed - August 17, 2007 (05:03 AM) You can like something but not actually own it, right? Take game stores. I love game stores. I don't own one. A posh mansion. That'd be nice. I don't own one. Geometry Wars. I love it. I don't own it. |
