Bourne Ultimatum
August 11, 2007

I saw The Bourne Ultimatum today. It was kind of good. I will review this movie AND show a new style of reviewing films in one fell swoop. Presenting...

THE BOURNE ULTIMATUM YAY AND NAY CHART

Yay!:
* Matt Damon's acting
* Occasional good lines
* Action sequences
* Good music

Nay.:
* Pretty much everyone else's acting (subpar or lifeless)
* Occasional pointless lines
* Bourne's new name (Jason Bourne is so much cooler than David... uh... David Surname-That-I-Can't-Remember)
* Shaky camera

Overall Impression:
Good enough, but could use improvements. 7.5/10.

EDIT: I'm changing it to an 8.5/10. I was a little too harsh, I think.

I loved it. To me, these movies keep getting better and better, with added layers of intensity in every entry. Paul Greengrass is exactly the right guy to make the Bourne films, and while some dislike his rapid-fire editing and shaky camera work, I think it does an amazing job of transporting the audience into the action -- this was most evident in Supremacy's climactic car chase. (Greengrass also did United 93, which, thanks to the same visual style, was one of the most intense films I've ever seen.)

The books composed a trilogy, but I hope the Bourne films keep going. Jason Bourne is like James Bond without the annoying, cocky personality. His films have all the potential to become just as successful. (Greatest crossover idea ever: Bourne vs. Bauer.)

By the way, his real surname is Webb.

Great movie, I'm a huge fan of the first two and this was the best one yet.

I just saw the Bourne Ultimatum today, actually. I really dug it.

Yeah, I just remembered his surname. I checked IMDB, and it was Webb, but thanks for telling me anyway.

And yeah, the movie wasn't that bad at all. It's just that some parts of the movie's development and acting irked me a little. In fact, I think I was a little harsh in my review. It's more like an 8.5/10, which, if 5/10 is average, is a well-rounded score. I will edit it so.
