I don't know anything about DQ8, but Drakengard 2 is AWESOME.

Drakengard 2 was awesome for me until I got to about the sixth or seventh chapter and got my characters annihilated by behemoth autokrators! You know, those really burly, badass knights. There were a ton of them, and in tight spaces they ground me into mince meat.
