The stereotype is that most women, when they go shopping to cheer themselves up, tend to go shopping for clothes/shoes/shiny things. Now.. while I like shiny things as much as the next female-type person, when I get depressed I shop for something else entirely. Video games!
If you can't guess, I'm having a rough week due to a nasty combination of work related stress and family (parental) related stress. So when I went to the mall tonight to get a classic controller for my new VC games, I ended up coming home with two other games.
Super Paper Mario and Link's Crossbow Training. Both solid investments, I think. I enjoyed the target shooting sections on Wii Play and I'm a fan of Zelda, so yeah, I'm enjoying it. I didn't expect anything brainiac out of it and I'm getting exactly what I expected. I haven't actually messed with the Zapper yet, but the standard nunchuck/remote combo works. Managed to score two bronzes and a silver before my pain meds kicked in and my reflexes went, so I think it's going to be fun to try to top that.
Super Paper Mario is making me squee with delight and be all girly. I loved the SMRPG-ish style of Paper Mario: Thousand Year Door but sadly I missed out on the N64 original (although it will be remedied when I have a bit more money.. *points at the VC*) so I had originally thought this was more of the same. Upon further research I found out that it's some sort of weird platformer/RPG hybrid, but hey, it's gotten pretty good reviews and I want to flesh out my Wii collection...
And I'm hooked. Dammit. :P Seriously, I'm utterly charmed by its hybrid gameplay and some of its dialogue, even in the first two chapters, made me giggle. Especially when the game broke the fourth wall, sort of. "You don't know what this A is of which I speak? Well, if we're being observed from another dimension, those folks will understand. You don't have enough mustache to understand it!" (or something)
So yeah. I actually went in looking for WarioWare but they had ONE used copy and I have the discount card.. so it was essentially $10 off and the disc is in perfect condition, so I wasn't passing it up.
Now I've got to be good for a little bit, except for a charger station (that's all I need yet to have most of the peripherals I wanted for my Wii, except for a memory card, perhaps).
Oh, and I've not lost my touch on Legend of Kage. I made it nearly to the end of the game in 14 minutes. :D Got killed two floors down from "freeing" the princess on the last level, then I would've had the final boss, but meh. People said that it sucks and it's not worth the $5 but you know what? Even if I beat it in 15 minutes it's still worth it to me because I'll keep playing and trying to rack up a decent score, because I love that game. :)

Felix_Arabia - January 14, 2008 (09:53 PM) Someone's Legend of Kage review said "An insult to ninjas." Or something like that. I thought it was funny. |

honestgamer - January 14, 2008 (11:51 PM) It's great to see someone else around here enjoying the Wii as much as I do. Congratulations on your purchases. Once I have money to spend--could be a long while--we can compete to make the best Wii purchases from month to month. Sound like a plan? Well, it's my plan... even if its not yours. :-D |

sashanan - January 15, 2008 (01:16 AM) I am happy to see the Wii is working out for you as well as it is. Of course, past experience suggests it won't be long until you talk me into getting one as well, but I'll just have to hold out as long as I can. |

siara79 - January 15, 2008 (07:33 AM) Felix - Yeah, I guess you could say Legend of Kage is an insult to ninjas, but I still love the stupid thing. I have no idea why, I just do. :) Jason - When I have more money as well, I think that is an absolute novel idea. ;D And you know.. if you don't mind and you have broadband, I wouldn't mind exchanging Wii friend codes with you. BTW, that poem made me giggle! Sash - If you don't have one before you come see me again, I guarantee you'll get one when you get home. :D And why you blame poor lil ol' me for you potentially getting a Wii.. *snickers* |

pup - January 15, 2008 (09:20 AM) We could start a group called "Game Spenders Anonymous," but without all of the steps and sponsors. Instead, our group will order a hundred or so pizzas, rent some HDTV's, an pile in a dark gym room for an orgy of gaming. |

Felix_Arabia - January 15, 2008 (09:24 AM) Being in any sort of orgy with Pup is just a little too much for me. @" |

MartinG - January 15, 2008 (09:47 AM) When reading the title of this post, I though you were FINALLY going to acknowledge your unhealthy devotion to any movie starring Will Ferrell and, lately, Nicolas Cage. But this is good too! Those all sound like good purchases. |

honestgamer - January 15, 2008 (02:43 PM) I tried to connect my Wii to the Internet today and it said "No, not happening," even though it has done just fine with the connection before. So I'll have to look into that before I can add any more friends or download any Virtual Console titles... though the latter isn't likely to happen for awhile, anyway. |

siara79 - January 17, 2008 (07:11 AM) Sometimes mine does that but I just have to reset my modem and it works. Just let me know if you're interested in exchanging codes when it works. If not it's no biggie but you have mine now. :) And Mart - I don't have a love for Will Ferrell movies. I just don't automatically write a movie off because he's in it. :P Nicholas Cage? Sure. I've always liked him, though he's not a favorite by a long shot. Finally.. any orgy that has the word "gaming" in front of it is OK by me!! |
