I went to Best Buy with Mom last night because she wanted a Zune case. Hubby was home in bed, and we were on our way up to see my dad, who had just had surgery Friday.
I ended up picking up Tekkaman Blade series 3 in Japanese, mostly for the "missing link" episode to connect TB & TB II. There was also an unoccupied Wii demo with Super Mario Galaxy.
Mom says, "Come on, you've got to try it out."
Yeah.
5 minutes of playing, totally clueless, and I want a Wii so bad I can taste it. That also, of course, tells me that SMG lives up to the hype, if after 5 minutes I'm in MUSTHAVEARGH mode.
So now begins the hunt. I doubt I'll find one until after January 1st, and I'm not willing to put my faith in Gamestop's IOU program. Maybe I'll do what everyone else does and just wait at Target/Wal-Mart on shipment day. I guess that's the best time to luck out and find one?
Dammit. I was just getting my wishlist whittled down, too. :P

jerec - December 18, 2007 (11:48 AM) Man, in Australia, you can go into any department store, games store or electronics store and you can probably walk out of there with a Wii. Not sure why there's been a constant shortage elsewhere. Makes little sense to me. |

honestgamer - December 18, 2007 (11:53 AM) Nintendo is shipping too many units to Australia, obviously. That's all it is, Jerec. That, or you live in a part of Australia where gaming isn't a big deal. Anyway, in the US the trick is to hit up Wal-Mart pretty much every day. The one here gets in Wii shipments just a little before noon on Wednesdays, and I believe it's the same nationwide. So unless people form lines there outside the store on those days, you can probably show up around then and pick one up. Here, there are usually 2 or 3 hours before the system is gone, since they get in around 6 on average and I live in a small town where there aren't many gamers. |

pup - December 18, 2007 (12:41 PM) One of your best bets is to hit the stores every Sunday morning as soon as they open. A lot of stores are prohibited from telling, or simply do not know when the next shipment will come. In other cases, they may be sitting on a few cases in the warehouse, waiting for Sunday. If a company plans to show advertise something in their weekly fliers, they are legally obligated to have the minimum advertised. If you're lucky enough to find a place that will disclose their shipments, as in Honestgamer's case, that never hurts either. |

siara79 - December 18, 2007 (07:53 PM) I have to work tomorrow, and while I have the money, I won't have ACCESS to it until tomorrow night. Oh well. I'm figuring I'll luck out one way or the other, it's just going to take a bit of patience. And maybe after they increase production for the IOUs (if they truly manage it) they'll have more for other places too. But I'm getting excited about the idea of a Wii asap and a 360 with income tax return. Sony can kiss my ass for now. |

MartinG - December 19, 2007 (12:32 AM) The Wii's plentiful in the UK at least. Every single day I walk past at least two stores with permanent "Wii in stock!" signs. Can't imagine there being any shortage in Spain, either. |
