Free stuff!
November 30, 2007

So, sometimes I actually do get around to registering my games with their respective companies. In this case, I was trying to get 3 months free of Nintendo Power by registering 3+ products on My Nintendo. (Hey, I used to subscribe to it almost 15 years ago, and I'm curious to see if it'd be worth it now.) I stumbled upon an interesting promotion...A free feather pen shaped stylus, just for registering & giving my opinions on Zelda: Phantom Hourglass.

I got the notification that the stylus shipped earlier this week, and I came home to a small package in my mailbox.

Yup, it's here! And it's a lot nicer than I expected - one of the other news reports said "It's just a piece of plastic shaped like a feather".. and sure, it is.. but it's surprisingly cool-looking. :)

Also in the realm of cool stuff: After Sashanan's visit in September 2005, when he, my husband and I found ourselves repeatedly singing "The Beer Song" from The Bard's Tale (PS2/Xbox/PC) in unison, we were trying to locate the soundtrack.

On a whim, I typed it into Google a couple of days ago, and discovered that inXile has released the soundtrack for free download. So not only did I get my beloved Beer Song (Bard's Tale Version), I got seven different versions of "The Chosen One".. aka, "It's Bad Luck to Be You.."

So, if you're a fan of the game, its humor and music, here is a perfectly legal download link. And may it fill you up with cheer as well!

What IS your opinion on Phantom Hourglass, anyway? Am I the only person on this site that actually liked it?

I like it, but I do admit it has some major issues. My biggest problem was being TOTALLY reliant on the stylus - I mean, it was cool at first but I had issues with that after a while. As a rule though, I am enjoying the game. Not quite finished with it yet but I just topped off the Ghost Ship earlier today (Phoenix Wright and Luminous Arc tore me away from it.)

Well, I'm glad you're at least enjoying it. We stand few and proud, you and I.

I thought The Bard's Tale was funny until I realized that the game was really just making fun of itself for being generic. Great music, though. Thanks for the link.

In my opinion, the Bard's Tale made fun of the RPG genre in general. Although it's becoming more common for eastern RPGs to be self-referential that way, it's not often that I see a west-developed game do so. It made me laugh quite often enough, and still had single player gameplay to match Dark Alliance/Norrath, that I enjoyed it a great deal.

I think I realized one major thing that irritates me.

I know it's part of the gimmick, but why oh why do you have to go through EVERY. LEVEL. of the Ocean Palace each time? I'd like to see a warp point, say, every five floors, at least..

I know it's part of the "challenge" but it just annoys me.

As a whole though, I like the game a lot more than I expected to, and I'm glad I picked it up. It *is* a lot of fun.

Bard's Tale had my sort of humor, and I'm glad you're enjoying the music!
