Memories..
November 24, 2007

Last night was my 10-year high school reunion. I'm still not all that much into jumping into the thick of things, so I only got to talk to a few people, though I got to take a ton of pictures. However, a friend of mine had brought her autograph book and showed me my signature from HS. I signed it with my name and then "Zelda" in quotes.

That got me thinking. Back when video games were just becoming popular, I selected "Zelda" as my screen name because, well, to me it sounded better than "Samus" and those were the only two female characters I could think of right then.

It stuck for YEARS, to the point that one of my co-workers called me that when I worked in radio, and some people still give me grief about it to this day.

It's odd, though, to look back and see how few the female leads were, and now to see how many there are. I suppose if I hadn't picked up "Siara" about 10 years ago I'd probably be using a different video game-related name - and not necessarily a "female lead character" either.

But it just goes to prove that some habits die hard. I've been gaming since I was ..6 or 7.. when the NES came out. And I fully expect to be gaming as long as I can.

Long live "grownup gamers"!

My 10-year reunion is coming up next year and I'm depressed about it. I haven't really accomplished anything worth bragging about. I figure my 20-year reunion will be great, but I wanted to get places in 10.

I haven't done anything worth bragging about either, but it was still nice to see people. I'm surprised that half the people that were snobby or assholes in school were really nice and acted happy to see me, and some of the ones that were REALLY snooty still were. And about half my class appears to be pregnant (or their wives are) right now, so I felt a little out of place in that regard. (Due to myriad health issues, the hubby and I have decided no kidlings for us.)

Either way, it was an interesting time!

HG: my 10 year reunion was earlier this year. Although I went in somewhat sheepish with how little I'd accomplished of what I wanted to do, it was a major confidence booster when I found out nobody had had it that easy. Sure, I didn't have a place of my own yet, but most people didn't - either they'd still be in the studio they got when they went to college or uni (a phase I skipped entirely - the studio, I mean), or they were still with their folks like I was. It was comforting to know that it really IS that hard to find an affordable place here, it wasn't just me.

Then mere months later, I DID manage to buy myself a nice little condo. I'm still in the race!
