I bought my DS Lite right after launch (one of the first shipments to our area). I'd heard of the problems they had with the hinges right out of the gate, but I've had mine for almost a year and a half now with no issues.
Yeah, right.
Last night, I flipped open my DS to play some Phoenix Wright before I went to sleep, and I heard a "crack".
The whole area where the power light is cracked and separated from the DS - breaking the hinge, rendering it barely able to open, and leaving circuits exposed. I was PISSED.
I mean, I've been horribly sick for over a week, and all I wanted to do was lay down and play my game in bed. And of COURSE it had to be the system I'm using the most right now! So I tried to figure out how to fix it.
I know Nintendo was fixing them for free under warranty, but A) mine was way past warranty and B) right now I really need the thing to keep my sanity. (I mean, one can only take so much consecutive Dragon Ball Z before going insane..) And who knows how long it'd take them to fix it/refurbish it/whatever.
Then I had a brainstorm.
I'm sick of my white DS. So why not get a new one? The dilemma is that I don't get paid until next week.. but an extremely generous friend of mine is loaning me the cash for a bit. I'm ordering off Amazon so I get the one I want, and with $3.99 overnight shipping, I'll have it tomorrow.
So yeah. I'm going to pony up for one of those shiny new Crimson & Black ones. I can survive for one night without, although I need to pick up more screen protectors while I'm out tonight.
So now I'm excited, and my basically crap day has gotten substantially better.
Tomorrow I'll bring my broken baby into work and get a picture so you guys can see what happened. And unlike Sash's speculation, NO, I didn't break it because of Godot (annoying prosecutor in PW3). I don't abuse it at all, unless you count riding around in my purse as "abuse".

honestgamer - November 15, 2007 (12:17 PM) I don't abuse it at all, unless you count riding around in my purse as "abuse". That depends on what's in your purse, I think. There are things in some women's purses that are fit for neither man nor beast. |

siara79 - November 15, 2007 (12:43 PM) My purse? Normally contains my wallet, two checkbooks (mine and our joint account), my business card holder and at least one handheld gaming system. I'm not your typical female. :P Either way.. this is an excuse to get a shiny new DS in a color other than "Polar White". |

EmP - November 15, 2007 (02:01 PM) The white one was an awful idea. Too light meaning a short trip in my grubby pockets does not do it any favours. This message bought to you while my DS recharges from Luminous Ark over-playing. |

pup - November 15, 2007 (05:21 PM) I had one of the white ones with the defective hinge as well. The difference is that I had the replacement plan from Best Buy, so I traded mine in for the black/crimson one last week. Seriously, replacement plans on systems, at least at Best Buy, are always a good investment. If the two years is almost up and nothing has gone wrong, take it in anyway and make up a good excuse. As a former employee of Best Buy, management actually encouraged us to tell that to customers. They still make a profit because 99% of the people will simply forget. As for the service plans on iPods, that's a different story altogether. |

siara79 - November 15, 2007 (05:48 PM) I love Luminous Arc so far. I'm stealing my hubby's DS for a bit (he's hooked on something on the PSP right now) and my new one should arrive tomorrow. My bosses informed me that I should stay home and recover (FINALLY! Been trying to get them to do that for a week!) so I'll be here to welcome it. I wish they'd made the dark blue one available here though, I would've snapped it up in an instant! |

siara79 - November 15, 2007 (05:51 PM) I rarely buy systems at Best Buy though - I got mine at GameCrazy because our only BB is about 30 miles north and that particular day .. well, it was sort of a snap decision. But it's good to know for future reference. I only ordered this one off Amazon because a) I didn't expect to be going to a gaming store tonight due to my hubby and I both being ill and b) I get overnight shipping for $1.99, which is less than what I'd have paid in tax. |
