Phoenix Wright and the Complicated Playthrough
October 28, 2007

I've discovered that as much as I love to write FAQs, for some games it lowers the fun quotient when I try to write on the first playthrough. The problem is, however, for those of us who work full-time it's often hard to get a guide written before most sites are overloaded - for anything other than games destined for obscurity, that is.

And then of course, there's the tremendous pressure you are under to get the partial finished as soon as possible.

So this time around, I'm not sweating it. I'm going to try a different technique - it's been accepted here, and rejected at GameFAQs (I'm guessing because there are five FAQs based on the Japanese import up already). So I'll play through each case, then go back through and re-do it so I can write it up properly, doing updates each time. That way I can get the maximum enjoyment out of two of my favorite hobbies.

I did get a little further on the second case last night, and of course, the puns are already flying fast and furious. This is one of my favorite series and while I will be sorry to see Phoenix go I'll still be anxious to see what playing as Apollo Justice is like.

I agree that writing while playing sucks much of the enjoyment out because one has to turn an analytical eye to every detail. It's also a good way to run up a bunch of errors (I know I did that with FFXII) as well. Once you get the guide done fully, I bet GameFAQs accepts it. Have fun!

Actually, Sashanan has agreed to help me - since he lives on the other side of the "pond", we rarely get to work on games at the same time. So we thought it'd be fun to collaborate this time around.

I think what makes it so difficult (and disheartening) is that I work 40 hours a week, plus (not to be sexist) I do most of the cooking and cleaning so I don't have a lot of time. So I always feel like I'm about 10 steps behind everyone else. However hanging out here makes me think that I don't have to kill myself hurrying anymore, just make reasonable progress.
