Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith (Game Boy Advance)

Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith review (GBA)

Reviewed on March 06, 2007

Star Wars Episode 3: Revenge of the Sith is a simple, humble story about a whiny little pissant’s journey into becoming one of the most iconic villains in movie history. Its video game counterpart is a simple, humble story about a whiny little pissant walking to the right constantly and killing everything he sees.

Guardian Heroes (Saturn)

Guardian Heroes review (SAT)

Reviewed on March 04, 2007

As you and your band of adventurers gather around the table, chatting about the sword you have acquired, a green-haired knight comes busting through the door. She warns about the royal knights raiding the place, and before you have time to process it all, you find yourself fighting off a group of soldiers in a burning building. You eventually escape, but as you make it to the streets, you see that more soldiers have been waiting for you. Everyone in your group escapes, but you stay behind with t...

Final Fantasy VI Advance (Game Boy Advance)

Final Fantasy VI Advance review (GBA)

Reviewed on March 01, 2007

(Note: I never played the original FF6, so I have no real views on the new translation debate. However, from comparing scripts, I think the new script is a lot better and more clear. If you are playing the game for nostalgia, you should probably be doing it with a SNES controller in your hand anyway, that’s all I have to say on that…)

Devil May Cry (PlayStation 2)

Devil May Cry review (PS2)

Reviewed on March 01, 2007

Talk of Devil May Cry being a Resident Evil sequel may seem less ridiculous in light of the fairly slick RE4, but even then it's a bit of a stretch. It's tough to imagine that the game was originally set to be a slow trek through cramped corridors, or that its arsenal of shotguns, pistols, and grenade launchers would have limited and carefully rationed ammo, or that its sword-toting antihero Dante might have been caught wielding a puny knife. More than anything, I can't picture him obeying those...

Pac-Man review (ARC)

Reviewed on March 01, 2007

I know what you’re thinking. Pac-Man? Survival Horror? Yes, a genre made famous by such classics as Alone in the Dark, Clock Tower, and Resident Evil actually got its start as one of the first video games ever created.

Last Gladiators Digital Pinball review (SAT)

Reviewed on February 28, 2007

Man, I love playing with balls. Especially silver balls I get to smack around with flippers. And when I play with one long enough, a whole bunch of silver balls come out wanting to get smacked as well.

Lunar Knights (DS)

Lunar Knights review (DS)

Reviewed on February 25, 2007

After centuries of getting their asses kicked, vampires have learned one important thing: Dracula is overrated. No longer must the creatures of the night rely on some dark lord to suddenly appear. Instead, the bloodthirsty villains have taken over the world with a blend of magic, technology, and brute strength. To ensure their success, the vampires have created the paraSOL system, a satellite that blocks out the sun and envelops Earth in perpetual darkness. Without their precious sunlight, regul...

Clockwork Knight (Saturn)

Clockwork Knight review (SAT)

Reviewed on February 24, 2007

In Clockwork Knight, you play the role of a wind-up toy, Pepperouchau, who has the daunting task of saving the kidnapped Princess Chelsea (yup, that plot). As you take control of this little toy knight, you'll end up traveling through eight stages in a house filled with toys that have gone bad. In one bedroom, you'll encounter nuisances like rotating clowns and knight helmets with pitchforks as you run across giant desks and bookshelves. Later on, you'll be in another room, walking on top...

DefCon 5 (Saturn)

DefCon 5 review (SAT)

Reviewed on February 21, 2007

Overwhelmed and irritated. Those are the feelings you'll get when you play through Defcon 5 for the very first time. As you set foot on a defense station in space, you need to make it all the way up to the Control Room and install a defense software. Getting there is an adventure in itself, since there's nothing within the game that really helps you move in the right direction. The only real help you'll get is from the instruction manual, and even then, it's still a bit confusing. If you ...

Sam & Max Episode 1 - Culture Shock review (PC)

Reviewed on February 21, 2007

Most reviews of the latest Sam and Max game (Sam and Max – Culture Shock) begin with the reviewer recalling his or her past experiences with the series. I don’t have those experiences. In all honesty, I’ve never particularly cared for adventure games. The only one I ever bothered to play through was The Secret of Monkey Island and the only reason I did play through it was because I had a guide that held my hand the whole time. I can appreciate the storylines of adventure gam...

Comix Zone (Genesis)

Comix Zone review (GEN)

Reviewed on February 18, 2007

Meet Sketch Turner. He’s just an average guy, a man trying to make a living with his skills as an artist. In fact, he’s working on his latest work of art, a surrealistic comic book series that could garner him nationwide acclaim. But until that happens, he’s just some random nobody, cooped up in his New York City apartment as a fierce thunderstorm rages outside. As Sketch sets his ink pen down and takes pride in yet another finished comic page, a lightning bolt races through the room and zaps hi...

Strider (Genesis)

Strider review (GEN)

Reviewed on February 18, 2007

As darkness falls across the land, a figure moves through the shadows. This mysterious person is armed with his trusty katana, a seemingly endless supply of shurikens, and the combat prowess of a hardened warrior. His purpose is simple: stealthily kill the target and escape unnoticed. As the nameless man creeps up through the gloomy night, his prey doesn’t even realize the danger looming ever so closer. It doesn’t really matter, anyway; the target will be dead in mere seconds once the veiled kil...

SSX On Tour (PlayStation 2)

SSX On Tour review (PS2)

Reviewed on February 17, 2007

As you stand on the top of the hill, the chilly breeze flows past you like a wave of ice. The sun is still climbing toward the midday sky, but it has done little to warm the surrounding mountainside. It snowed last night; there’s a fresh layer of the white frosty goodness laid out before you, with trails stretching as far as the eye can see. None of the snow has melted off the trees, either; the entire hillside is primed and ready for some serious shredding. In fact, that’s what you’re here for....

Metal Gear Acid (PSP)

Metal Gear Acid review (PSP)

Reviewed on February 15, 2007

As a longtime fan of the Metal Gear series, I met Metal Gear Ac!d for the PSP with a mixture of joy and reservations. On one hand, I was getting a full-length, portable Metal Gear experience with all of the crazy plot twists and characters that I’d come to know and love—so I thought. On the other hand, I walked in knowing that not only was the story not part of the series canon, but that instead of the Tactical Stealth Espionage Action that I’d come to love, the game would be played through a ca...

Daytona USA: Championship Circuit Edition (Saturn)

Daytona USA: Championship Circuit Edition review (SAT)

Reviewed on February 10, 2007

Despite its attempts to be an improvement over the original Daytona USA, Daytona USA: Championship Circuit Edition still sucks. Graphically. You'll still be able to spot pop-ups that appear in each track, though, things don't pop-up as much as the original. But they're still pretty noticeable, especially in the replays. The visuals have been completely redone, so nothing from the previous installment has been lazily brought over here. Are they an improvement, though? Well.... kinda, but, ...

Diddy Kong Racing DS review (DS)

Reviewed on February 10, 2007

Meet Diddy Kong. He’s one of the few video game sidekicks that have managed to garner the attention of countless gamers around the world. At first glance, you wouldn’t think that this little primate is one of the greatest unsung heroes of Nintendo’s many franchises. Compared to his more popular partner Donkey Kong, Diddy seems pretty weak, useless, and wimpy. Don’t let his appearance fool you; this guy can kick evil’s ass with supreme prejudice. If brutally slaughtering baddies with lethal cartw...
