Star Wars: Republic Commando review (XBX)Reviewed on March 31, 2007Games based on movies rarely hit the mark. Developers are rushed to meet strict movie release deadlines, and on top of that it's difficult to translate a two-hour movie into a longer interactive adventure. By basing Republic Commando on the Star Wars prequel trilogy, Lucas Arts had the freedom of adhering to no movie in particular, and created an experience that's enjoyable regardless of your knowledge of the films. The result is a relentlessly entertaining shooter based in the Star Wars univers... |

F.E.A.R: First Encounter Assault Recon review (X360)Reviewed on March 30, 2007With first person shooters becoming a staple of gaming on nearly all platforms, it’s becoming harder and harder to find the quality titles. However, behind the customary Halo’s and Metroid’s, one stands tall; it stands as a groundbreaking mix of atmosphere, gunplay, and exploration. That title is F.E.A.R. |

Garfield and His Nine Lives review (GBA)Reviewed on March 30, 2007Garfield’s overweight, lazy, constantly eating, and his sense of humor is mean-spirited, but you can’t help but love him. Whether you think he’s funny or not, Garfield is an instantly recognizable cultural icon. The iconic orange cat has been featured in movies, television, and on the back of car windows across the world. Garfield has been successful across a variety of mediums, but his success has never translated into the video game world. Garfield’s most recent foray into the electronic world... |

Hitman: Blood Money review (PS2)Reviewed on March 30, 2007Hitman Blood money adds another installment to the Hitman game franchise, for those who are unaware these games place you at the helm as an unnamed spy/espionage agent simply known as “number 47 . His Job is to take contracts (assassination, theft, espionage, and tings of that nature). Having played several of the previous instalments I honestly expected this to be a rehash, or another much of the same cash cow title made to milk us for a quick buck. |

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles IV: Turtles in Time review (SNES)Reviewed on March 29, 2007When I was a kid, I knew Turtles in Time as the game where you could throw bad guys into the screen. Yes, that’s right. Into the screen. It’s the one unique twist in this otherwise typical beat-‘em-up. The game is about as brainless as it gets; beat up a bunch of foot soldiers, battle some big bad bosses, listen to the incredibly cheesy digitized voice samples along the way (“STARBASE: WHERE NO TURTLE HAS GONE BEFORE”), and generally have a good time. A monkey could have fun with this gam... |

Peter Jackson's King Kong: The Official Game of the Movie review (PS2)Reviewed on March 29, 2007There are many reasons why one might be interested in playing King Kong. Some might wish to visit the digital retelling of a classic tale of a love that could never exist in our world. Someone else might find solace in an uplifting tale that shows that, in that very same world of humans, a behemoth ape turned out to be the most humane creature of them all. |

Golgo 13: Top Secret Episode review (NES)Reviewed on March 29, 2007You gotta love Duke Togo. As the stylishly attired and jaded looking spook meets his female handler in an airport lounge, she introduces herself as "Maria Lovelette" and we can only imagine her flirtatious giggle when Togo replies with an eloquent ellipsis. Going full steam ahead, she doles out exposition for a painfully long time before arriving at her point -- the entire Red Army is after Mr. Togo because he has been the victim of a gosh-awful frame-up as part of some byzantine conspiracy. The... |

Silent Hill review (PSX)Reviewed on March 29, 2007Everyone--to this day--compares Resident Evil to Silent Hill. Both surfaced around the same time, both games received enormous success with their original release and both brought the horror genre, at least for a time, into the spotlight. But in essence, comparing Resident Evil to Silent Hill is like comparing Dawn of the Dead to The Ring. Both are great in their own right, but one has a gore/survival feel to it, the other a haunting, psychological feel. In my opinion... |

Yu Yu Hakusho: Dark Tournament review (PS2)Reviewed on March 27, 2007Most gamers seem to believe that anime based games will be horrid no matter what. Although, every once in a while a game comes along that will defy this belief. Dark Tournament isn’t one of those games. The sad thing is that there are many good Yu Yu Hakusho(from now on referred to as YYH) games in Japan. Yet for some reason only the bad ones were released in America. Oh well, enough of my history lesson. You’re here to read about the game, not listen to me ramble on about the series. |

Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Vegas review (PC)Reviewed on March 27, 2007From the moment I started playing through it, Rainbow Six: Vegas made me its bitch. I consider myself a connoisseur of first-person shooters. I’ve played dozens of them. But I’ve never really done tactical shooters and because of this inexperience, Rainbow Six: Vegas made me work to succeed. If I made any mistakes, the game capitalized by sending me to a game over screen almost instantly. And yet, I kept reloading the last checkpoint, chugging along at a snails’ pace, grudgingly re... |

College Hoops 2K7 review (PS2)Reviewed on March 24, 2007College Hoops 2K7 captures some of the wonderful media moments of NCAA basketball. In a dynasty, every season begins with Midnight Madness and a wild intrasquad practice. Shortly thereafter, facsimiles of talking heads Greg Gumbel and Clark Kellogg host a lengthy preview show, offering canned insight into the Top 25 poll, rundowns of preseason All-Americans, and outlines of high profile coaching changes. After conference tournaments conclude, the pair returns for the big Selection Sund... |

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: 1989 Classic Arcade review (X360)Reviewed on March 22, 2007If you were a kid in the late 80s or early 90s, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles were the ****. The cartoon was at the height of its popularity and merchandise was selling like hotcakes. Then, in 1989, TMNT graced the arcades, causing hardcore fans to wet themselves in joy. If you were one of those kids, you better gear up because the nostalgia is going to hit you like a brick wall. |

God of War II review (PS2)Reviewed on March 21, 2007God of War II is not complicated. Multi-faceted plot? Pfft. How about five cutscenes in the whole game? Yeah, that's right. Even though the game is inundated with a stupidly self-conscious epic narrative and an equally pompous musical score, you won't care once you press the start button. From beginning to end, God of War II is Exhibit A for ass-kickery. You know those parts in other games where you're just forcing yourself along so you can get to the next cool part? They don't exist in GoW2. Ev... |

WarioWare: Smooth Moves review (WII)Reviewed on March 21, 2007It didn’t take Nintendo long to realize that it took simple, fun and entertaining games to make the Wii a success. That’s why, outside of Zelda, Wario Ware: Smooth Moves is the best game in the new system’s library and is a landmark for how to utilize the unique controller. |

Super Mario Sunshine review (GCN)Reviewed on March 21, 2007To be blunt, I hated Nintendo’s approach to a 3-D Mario game. The idea of playing through the same level eight times, isn’t exactly my idea of a fun game. Super Mario 64 is one of the most popular Mario titles, and arguably, games of all time. Its unique mixture of platforming and exploration was indeed a match that seemed to be made in heaven, but it was victim of its own circumstances. Levels, despite being large, were rather boring, enemies barely posed a threat and, although ... |

Secret of Mana review (SNES)Reviewed on March 21, 2007Most people do not realize it, but the now-hallowed Mana series did not begin with the seminal title which this review describes. It far started as Seiken Dentetsu - or as we here in the western hemisphere better know it, Final Fantasy Adventure. This landmark Gasmeboy title had its title altered to bank off Final Fantasy's recent success on the Nintendo Entertainment System. It was the first, but not the last time that Mana would play second fiddle to the more recognized Final Fantasy brand.... |

Beyond Good & Evil review (PS2)Reviewed on March 21, 2007In recent years, storytelling in our video games has grown somewhat stagnant. Some of the best selling titles of the previous generation of consoles were the products of ego-driven artists, producing shoddy action titles to fulfill their action hero wet-dreams. Am I the only one surprised by the fact that people who write "music" that consists mostly of "uh" and "yeah" are incapable of stringing together a decent story? |

NBA 2K7 review (X360)Reviewed on March 18, 2007When I first bought the Xbox 360 version of NBA 2K7, I had already played the PS2 version for many hours. I didn't think that two games with identical titles, cover arts, and game modes could be so different. It's not just a huge graphical upgrade; the two games are like night and day. It is the true sequel to 2KSports's NBA 2K6. |

Clockwork Knight 2 review (SAT)Reviewed on March 18, 2007Saving the princess (again) ain't an easy job, and you realize this when taking your toy knight, Pepperouchau, through a bathroom stage in Clockwork Knight 2. As you ride on Barobaro, your nearsighted donkey, through puddles of water and on a narrow track, your toy opponents do everything they can to assure you won't make it to the stage's end. Octopuses riding on boats will come at you up ahead, while knight helmets running on beach balls will charge from behind, ensuring that you'll hav... |
