PO'ed (PlayStation)

PO'ed review (PSX)

Reviewed on May 03, 2008

Fun story. My e-chum EmP and I spent an afternoon looking at some dumb old PlayStation games, trying to pick one to lie about and build up as a lost classic. We ended up choosing PO'ed, though the fact that I'm the only one actually writing a review of it shows how reliable the man is. We'd go on eBay, the plan was, since the game only sells for a penny (even when the auction says that it's in GREAT SHAPE L@@K LIKE NEW and promises overnight shipping). We wanted to build PO'ed up as a cult hit D...

Porsche Challenge (PlayStation)

Porsche Challenge review (PSX)

Reviewed on April 06, 2008

Let’s be blunt. There’s more of a chance you know that the American Samoan islands have a soccer team than knowing this PlayStation not-so-classic ever existed. A title that stinks of sheer forgettable-ness has the only redeeming factor of driving around in Porsche’s. Still, that’s nothing like the real thing.

Final Fantasy VIII (PlayStation)

Final Fantasy VIII review (PSX)

Reviewed on March 21, 2008

Final Fantasy VIII is a game that has sparked a large amount of controversy. From those that consider it the sparkling pinnacle of the established series, to those that loathe it intently, it is clear that a game of this ilk must have some strong characteristics at the heart of it.

PaRappa the Rapper review (PSX)

Reviewed on March 21, 2008

So just imagine being back in the year is 1995, when you’ve just seen the PlayStation in action hot off the production line, and seen the likes Ridge Racer in action. You probably imagined how the wonders of 3D could translate into all your favourite genres, such as shooting, realistic sports and maybe action games, all later to become cookie-cutter genres on the format. At what point would you have imagined playing a game involving a 2D hip-hop rapping dog, who tries to impress a sunflower face...

Jet Moto 3 (PlayStation)

Jet Moto 3 review (PSX)

Reviewed on March 02, 2008

Jet Moto 3 has gone into a transition of developers just as the Twisted Metal series did. The first two games of each series were developed by “Single Trac,” and the last games by “989 Studios.” Some fans may think this is for the worst, but Jet Moto 3 ultimately benefits from this transition.

Final Fantasy Tactics (PlayStation)

Final Fantasy Tactics review (PSX)

Reviewed on January 30, 2008

To win this fight, the game encourages you to run around the edges of the screen spamming Ramza's stat-up skills to boost him to super-human proportions while an enraged, mutated Weigraf chases you around like the victim of a poor Benny Hill sketch. After a few laps, Ramza will be so artificially bloated that Weigarf's heartbreaking final sacrifice will amount to naught.

Final Fantasy VIII review (PSX)

For all the effort Square put into making Final Fantasy VIII’s plot interesting, it failed to trigger the emotional fireworks within me for one simple reason: I didn’t care.

Ark of Time (PlayStation)

Ark of Time review (PSX)

Reviewed on January 22, 2008

But, no, that would imply that a light-hearted slant had been taken on the game. Instead, Richard's position and news story are SERIOUS BUISNESS! This leads him to undertake serious issues like helping a local fisherman find his rare white crab who jumped ship while he wasn't looking. Said fisherman isn't the sharpest knife in the draw, so just painting any old crab will suffice -- teaching you that newspaper writers are rife with treachery.

Mega Man X6 (PlayStation)

Mega Man X6 review (PSX)

Reviewed on January 10, 2008

With the release of Mega Man X5, series director, Keiji Inafune, had completed his vision. As far as he was concerned, the X series was finished. The suits at Capcom thought otherwise. Mega Man X6 is little more than a cash-in on the franchise's popularity and is a soulless, unnecessary addition to the series.

Dino Crisis (PlayStation)

Dino Crisis review (PSX)

Reviewed on December 30, 2007

Like zombies? Try dinosaurs! Dino Crisis was and is the answer to the question of, "If I can survive zombies, could I survive rampaging dinosaurs?" Okay, maybe that is question not many people, or gamers for that matter, tend to ask themselves but it raises a good point. Are zombies as deadly as dinosaurs? When compared to the thrilling game series that is Resident Evil, they tend to about equal in terms of deadly clawing and biting. Your enemies not only try and devour you for food but, also, b...

Tales of Destiny II review (PSX)

Reviewed on December 19, 2007

A three disc RPG known in the U.S. as Tales of Eternia. You bet I never heard of this game when it came out in 2001. Anyway, it was out in Japan in 200. That's a good year for an RPG to come out, don't you think? Team Wolf was probably thinking like, "Hey mother****ers, our RPG is comin' out in the friggin year 2000!"

Spyro: Year of the Dragon (PlayStation)

Spyro: Year of the Dragon review (PSX)

Reviewed on December 13, 2007

Alongside Crash Bandicoot, the Spyro the Dragon series sat as the hallmark of PlayStation platforming, this third outing being the last both on PSone and to be developed by Insomniac, before being handed over to other developers with mixed results. The first Spyro game was a solid platformer with a genuine adventure feel and the second outing a year later was a decent follow-up, re-using the basic formula but unfortunately traded off challenge for too many mini-games. The success h...

Spyro the Dragon review (PSX)

Reviewed on December 13, 2007

The Spyro the Dragon series made its debut on the PlayStation in late 1998 and was developed Insomniac games, who previously had developed the then acclaimed Disruptor. Alongside Crash Bandicoot who by this time was on his third outing, Spyro the Dragon went on to become a key PlayStation series before Insomniac moved onto Ratchet and Clank on the PlayStation 2. Since the PSone days the Spyro series has seen mixed results with different developers, ranging from...

Need for Speed III: Hot Pursuit review (PSX)

Let’s begin by saying here that Need for Speed Hot Pursuit 3 is for arcade race fans only. NFS does offer a simulation option, but if you wanted that you’d have bought Gran Turismo already. So with that in mind let’s start the review!

Walt Disney World Quest: Magical Racing Tour (PlayStation)

Walt Disney World Quest: Magical Racing Tour review (PSX)

Reviewed on December 09, 2007

Walt Disney Magical Racing Tour is a light hearted, fairly fun, kiddish cart racing game. The game is intended for probably ages 8-12, but older players can still get some fun out of the light hearted gameplay. The main selling point of the game is the “Disney” label, but that doesn’t mean the game is too cookie cutter. Although the game is dwarfed by the likes of Crash Team Racing, and Mario Kart, it still manages to bring a few new things to the table, and a totally new racing cast. Read on ...
