The Club review (PS3)Reviewed on February 29, 2008From the opening cinema to the final curtain, The Club is designed to disturb you. Soldiers shower you with bullets and profanity. Men sag against the architecture as crimson stains spatter dreary concrete barricades and crumbling stone walls. Through it all, a monotone voice growls “Head Shot” every time a bullet turns a brain to mush, or “Fight!” whenever the carnage begins anew. The dreariness is relentless, even emotionally draining. |

Uncharted: Drake's Fortune review (PS3)Reviewed on February 23, 2008“There must be a beginning of any great matter, but the continuing unto the end until it be thoroughly finished yields the true glory”. The preceding was said by Sir Francis Drake, a believed ancestor of the games main character, Nathan Drake. You probably recognize Sir Francis Drake from your history textbooks. Wait, does that make this game...educational? Never fear, there is no form of educational learning in this game. All you’ll find here is a superbly crafted video game from Naughty Dog;... |

Devil May Cry 4 review (PS3)Reviewed on February 13, 2008On the normal setting, DMC4 isn't anywhere near as difficult as the previous game, but it's still challenging enough to entertain long-time fans of the series. On the easy setting, enemies still put up some resistance, but the battles are quite forgiving. The game offers just the right amount of challenge on both settings, yet deftly avoids becoming frustrating, making this a game that's enjoyable regardless of how skilled you are. |

Devil May Cry 4 review (PS3)Reviewed on February 10, 2008I was one of many hardcore gamers eagerly anticipating Devil May Cry 4 - so much so that I even spoiled myself rotten by watching all the in-game cutscenes (from the earlier-released Japanese version) as they were put up on YouTube. I couldn't help myself. Every piece of information gathered got me more and more hyped up, and early impressions from the short, but sturdy demo just added fuel to the fire. Now that it's finally here, I'm very happy, yet still somewhat disappointed. Ri... |

Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction review (PS3)Reviewed on January 16, 2008In my opinion, the PS3 hasn’t had any exclusive games that appealed to me with the exception of Metal Gear Solid 4 and Final Fantasy XIII which are still a long ways away. However, when I saw previews for the new Ratchet & Clank game and learned it was coming out in Fall 2007, I was excited. I played the demo at the Penny Arcade Expo in August and loved it. My roommate has a PS3 but all the games he owns are crappy sports game so I had to fix that by waiting for my local Blockbuster to have a... |

MX vs ATV Untamed review (PS3)Reviewed on January 09, 2008That means that if you hate the MX moments, you'll likely despise the frequent stretches where you're forced to drive a motorcycle. The worst news of all, though, is that you have to clear each track twice consecutively within a series of events. Once you finish a race the first time, regardless of your position, you have to turn around and immediately play through it again (or exit out and lose your progress). |

NBA 08 review (PS3)Reviewed on January 08, 2008NBA 08 is a solid basketball game featuring attractive visuals, a great soundtrack and the very entertaining NBA Replay mode. Basketball fans will especially find many of the modes very appealing. |

Time Crisis 4 review (PS3)Reviewed on November 28, 2007Time Crisis 4 doesn't stray far from the formula its predecessors embraced. There's really no reason it should. As your characters walk into an airport, someone tosses a smoke bomb their way and just like that, the action has begun. From that lobby, you'll make your way through all sorts of chaotic events that range from a gunfight in the streets to a stroll through a dark cave to a helicopter ride where you're causing everything but the towering skyscrapers to explode in a fiery inferno. |

WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2008 review (PS3)Reviewed on November 26, 2007WWE is laying the smackdown again, but not just on a few home consoles, but on every modern console. This is the first go around for a Smackdown game on the PS3, so fans will definitely be expecting better graphics and realism and Yukes delivers. |

Uncharted: Drake's Fortune review (PS3)Reviewed on November 26, 2007Of course, Uncharted is a game. It's not a perfect one, either. That means that for all of its visual splendor and for every moment you're so immersed that you'd jump out of your skin if the phone rang—and really, that side of things can't possibly be emphasized enough—the title sometimes pulls you out of its version of reality and unceremoniously dumps you in mediocrity's lap. |

Conan review (PS3)Reviewed on November 07, 2007You'll realize that early on, as you're ascending a crumbling tower in your quest to destroy a rampaging dragon. Along the way, you'll face his fire-breathing muzzle at several turns. Each time, the strategy is the same: dodge his attacks, then retaliate with some sword strokes. After several such instances, the developers threw in a little variety, and in the end it's not your sword that spells the dragon's doom but rather the available architecture. It's one of the game's highlights (along with a similar battle with a mammoth and later one with a giant squid), but somehow it doesn't feel like quite enough. |

Folklore review (PS3)Reviewed on October 12, 2007You see, unlike in other action RPGs, you don't have a sword that you replace over time. Instead, the Folks that you absorb are your weapons. Each Folk you absorb gives you a new ability, be it a flamethrowing badass' ability to throw a stream of fire, an ice-breathing dragon's skill to charge up blasts of ice, or something as little as the spear attack from a merman that stabs forward with a trident. |

Lair review (PS3)Reviewed on September 27, 2007The gamer in you will probably wish that your mount didn't take so long to turn, but consider how unrealistic it would be if you could maneuver through the air like a sports coup with wings. You might argue that realism went out the door the minute mythological monsters entered the equation, but one fact remains: riding on a beast's back should feel... beastly. |

Heavenly Sword review (PS3)Reviewed on September 15, 2007With such a high standard set, it shouldn't come as a surprise that gameplay doesn't hold up its end of the bargain. It does come close, though. The main problem is that Nariko spends most of her game carrying a sword capable of standing against the most powerful beings in the world, yet primarily battles simple soldiers. Even when an environment is crawling with troops, there isn't much to offer resistance. She's simply too powerful. |

Resistance: Fall of Man review (PS3)Reviewed on September 11, 2007Dotting beds of marram grass are bullet-riddled sandbags and barbwire thickets, but look closer at the sandy, havoc-stricken dunes comprising the European countryside. A seesaw extends out in the overgrown brush, the limp corpse of a fellow soldier keeping it suspended ominously in the air. Another officer hangs drooped over a rusted swing set, gently rocking with the breeze. Across the eerily silent expanse stands a cold, steel slide, yet another sullen reminder of carefree times not so lon... |

Mortal Kombat II review (PS3)Reviewed on June 19, 2007Love it or hate it, Mortal Kombat has become a household name since its release in 1991. A fighting game that utilized digitized actors depicting acts of gratuitous violence certainly caused a stir amongst critics, and received fairly widespread backlash from politicians. This was a dark yet exciting time for game players, as they got to lavish in a fight to the death—courtesy of their local arcade. But it wasn't until the release of the sequel—aptly titled Mortal Kombat II—that the foundations ... |

Spider-Man 3 review (PS3)Reviewed on May 19, 2007Such moments rock, but they’re counter-balanced by tedious missions. Early on, those revolve around stopping the various gangs that are battling for control of the city. Later, you have to take on super villains. The problem with these missions is that they’re not particularly fun, not when you could be out swinging around the city, riding on top of cars and whatever else interests you. |

Ridge Racer 7 review (PS3)Reviewed on January 04, 2007In 1995, Namco debuted the first of what would eventually become one the most well known racing franchises in the gaming industry. Always at the height of graphical achievements, Ridge Racer has earned its right to be the first to show off the true power the next-generation consoles have to offer. So it’s no surprise that you could find it on the shelves, right next to the elusive PS3, (or lack thereof), on launch day. |
