inFAMOUS (PlayStation 3)

inFAMOUS review (PS3)

Reviewed on May 14, 2011

McGrath comes from humble beginnings, he's nothing special, he doesn't think much of politics or Empire City. Cole has no secret wish for saving the world, or any dramatically suppressed demons. Nor strange personality quirks that beg to be exploited for super-powers, etc. He simply cares about his friends, and live a reasonably normal life like everyone else. Until one of the packages Cole is delivering literally blows up in his hands, which is where the game starts.

Mafia II (PlayStation 3)

Mafia II review (PS3)

Reviewed on April 30, 2011

[Mafia II] doesn't pave new ground and it probably won't be remembered as one of the greatest mafia stories ever told across any medium, but it is the best mafia story that our industry has ever told and I think that's something to celebrate.

Portal 2 review (PS3)

Reviewed on April 26, 2011

So there you go. Portal 2 might not have been the brain-teaser I’d hoped for, but it is too much a breath of fresh air in a world of stale design for me not to be impressed by it. If more designers did things like Valve we’d have... well, we’d only have one game released every two years. But it would be a goddamn incredible game.

Top Spin 4 review (PS3)

If the aim for a good sports-game is to allow the player to experience TV-moments on the screen, only without all the waits and commentary. And while being able to influence the events believably – without needing the years and years of training and repetition that would be needed in real life. If that is the aim, then there are a few things that need to happen.(...)

Yakuza 4 review (PS3)

Reviewed on April 01, 2011

“And the unarmed running hitman as Kazuma Kiryu, the legendary former fourth chair of the Tojo clan, who now runs an orphanage as a tax-shelter at Okinawa. Very well. As he enters the roof, the 100 billion yen and the third gunman also arrive. The first gunman has trailed Kazuma through the building, and casually walks around the scene while the two people on the roof speak endlessly about the past as only 40-year olds can".

BioShock 2 review (PS3)

Those who don't care for First Person Shooters should probably look elsewhere, as it can make an unprepared person dizzy and aggravated. I highly recommend “Bioshock 2.”

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed 2 (PlayStation 3)

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed 2 review (PS3)

Reviewed on February 12, 2011

Early on in Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II, our hero, Starkiller, escapes from a cloning facility in Darth Vader's TIE fighter. The caped arch-villain watches as his failed protégé takes to the air and escapes the Empire's custody, setting the stage for yet another attempt at rebellion. The scene is beautifully rendered, as all are in The Force Unleashed II, adding a touch of Hollywood authenticity to the production. But this one scene, beautiful and fleeting, breaks any sen...

LittleBigPlanet 2 (PlayStation 3)

LittleBigPlanet 2 review (PS3)

Reviewed on February 02, 2011

Today’s play session lasted several hours, but I could have just as easily have devoted weeks to the same endeavor. There are literally thousands of options left for me to explore. I’m not sure that I would have believed just how much there is to the LittleBigPlanet 2 community if I hadn’t had the chance to experience it for myself. The people at Media Molecule and Sony have the right to be proud of what they have accomplished, and so do the creative gamers who have become a part of it.

Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood (PlayStation 3)

Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood review (PS3)

Reviewed on January 18, 2011

Even before its release, Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood was the victim of utter scrutinization. Many knew the premise, but most wondered if the ideas present weren’t more than fancy add-on content. Multi-player they said. You don’t need to make an entirely new game for that! Angry retort from the R.E. 5 fans I suppose. How so many could say such a thing about one of the most ingenious, incredible franchises is beyond me, especially after the sequel. It now seems that I...

Medal of Honor (PlayStation 3)

Medal of Honor review (PS3)

Reviewed on January 14, 2011

Medal of Honor can barely claim to being more than half a game, the half it does right, it excels. The other half isn’t bad for a first attempt -- but that’s not really good enough, is it?

Condemned 2: Bloodshot review (PS3)

Reviewed on January 07, 2011

I’m the type of person who easily forgives flaws. So long as a game has one incredible, striking element I can ignore shoddy camera angles, loose controls or bad graphics. It’s a requirement that shifts depending on which genre I’m playing. For survival horror, it simply has to do one thing: terrify me. Do that, and I’m willing to dismiss any mechanical issues you may have.

Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands review (PS3)

Reviewed on December 25, 2010

Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands is such a sad game. It isn't really that bad, and it aims high, but it just isn't that good. After a failed reboot, the developers sought to resurrect the franchise by bringing it back to its roots. And though it stays true to form and feels just like Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, it just isn't a whole lot of fun to play. Despite high production values, it doesn't seem like a whole lot of thought went into the game's design, leaving ...

Gunstar Heroes review (PS3)

Your mission is straightforward enough: As one of the two Heroes — twin brother Red or Blue — you must foil the nefarious Colonel Red (the doppelganger of Street Fighter II’s M. Bison) who has stolen the four Mystic Gems in an plot to unleash the all-powerful Golden Silver — and you’ll want to release your brainwashed older brother Green and rescue hopeless ally Yellow along the way.

Splatterhouse review (PS3)

Once upon a time, all this blood and nudity would have been daring. I remember gasping in awe when playing the originals . . . of course, those were marketed towards pre-teens who couldn't even get into R-rated flicks. In today's world, hacking up misshapen beasts and grabbing softcore pics just isn't enough.

Killzone 2 (PlayStation 3)

Killzone 2 review (PS3)

Reviewed on November 30, 2010

Here’s a funny thing that happened when I rented Killzone 2 a year ago. I picked the game up early one Saturday afternoon and was finished with its campaign before I went to bed. The next day, I had friends over. We were looking for a decent multiplayer game to kill some time and my roommate’s LittleBigPlanet disc wasn’t working, so hey, Killzone 2! We popped the game into the console and were then dismayed to learn that Killzone 2 doesn’t have local multiplayer. Well...

Monopoly Streets (PlayStation 3)

Monopoly Streets review (PS3)

Reviewed on November 18, 2010

You can play by the standard rule set (with a few minor tweaks from the game that I remember), or you can select a few preset game modes. Those modes have names, such as "Bull Market" (where the players begin with more money and every piece of property is auctioned off before anyone even starts moving around the board) and "Jack Pot" (where it's possible to upgrade spaces that you own with houses and hotels even if you don't have a proper monopoly). If you'd prefer changes that are less drastic, you can create and name various custom configurations for convenient use down the road.

Uncharted 2: Among Thieves (PlayStation 3)

Uncharted 2: Among Thieves review (PS3)

Reviewed on November 13, 2010

Drake is a kick-ass sort of super-cool guy who seems completely in control whether he's gunning down hostiles, impersonating Spider-Man while exploring vast caverns for treasure or delivering devastating zingers with impeccable timing. Working as his support cast are TWO potential love interests, an equally sarcastic friend-turned foe, a gruff and shady mentor and, of course, a megalomaniac looking to take over the world. The script writes itself.
