19XX: The War Against Destiny review (ARC)Reviewed on August 24, 200619XX: The War Against Destiny is a good shoot-em-up. It does a nice job at keeping you on your toes throughout its six stages with the amount of candy-coated bullets that gets thrown your way. However, when compared to the game it followed up, 1941, you get this overwhelming feeling that 19XX took a step backwards. After that highly enjoyable game, this title seems to pale in comparison as it doesn't actually have many significant upgrades or differences that make it stand o... |

1941: Counter Attack review (ARC)Reviewed on August 22, 20061941: Counter Attack had a lot to prove following up its predecessor. While 1943 Kai wasn't a GREAT game, it did do a lot for the series back when it originally came out: a better, yet, still hard gameplay experience, souped-up weapons, a decent stage count, and other nice additions. So, when I began the first stage of 1941, I wasn't that impressed. It basically started out like any other game in the series. With the P-38 at my controls (second player gets a Mosquito, I thin... |

1943 Kai: Midway Kaisen review (ARC)Reviewed on August 20, 2006Ah, Capcom, you gotta love them. Once they release a game and it becomes popular, you can expect them to milk the hell out of that title by releasing "revamped" versions several months later. You've seen them do this with Resident Evil, Devil May Cry 3, and of course, you remember what everyone went through with Street Fighter II. But even before that little known title, Capcom's been doing it to older games. In this case, 1943: The Battle of Midway. A year after tha... |

1943: The Battle of Midway review (ARC)Reviewed on August 17, 20061942 sucked. A lot. Piloting a P-38 through thirty-two stages of the same exact crap is not my idea of a good time. So, I wasn't really going into 1943: The Battle of Midway with high hopes. I read that it has quite a few upgrades that make it better than its predecessor, so I was willing to give the game a shot. |

1942 review (ARC)Reviewed on August 16, 2006I've played 1942 a couple of times before, and each of those times, I didn't really get into the game. With a grand total of thirty-two stages, I just didn't have the time. But I was willing to give the game another shot when I decided to do a review for it. I made sure I had plenty of time to waste, so I can attempt to make it through the entire title. |

Final Fight review (ARC)Reviewed on August 08, 2006As the sun sets over Metro City, the citizens of the urban wasteland face another night of crime, corruption, and despair. Mad Gear, a powerful street gang with political influence and unparalleled resources, continues to tighten its chokehold on the city. Their dominance was a direct result of the old mayor’s limitless greed and utter lack of cojones. But now there’s a new mayor in town, the kind of well-meaning and honest type of person that Mad Gear can’t stand. In order to get the new offici... |

Dead Connection review (ARC)Reviewed on July 06, 2006Don Nerozzia knows the rules. When a man stands in your way, you bribe him, blackmail him, or influence those around him to neutralize the threat. If he’s unimpeachable, then maybe, just maybe, you reward him with a bullet to the back of the head. You certainly don’t gun down his lady in the street and expect him to slink away. Especially not with Philip, the leader of men making a stand against a gigantic crime. Yes, Nerozzia knows the rules; he just chose to ignore them. So now th... |

X-Multiply review (ARC)Reviewed on May 04, 2006One memorable section sends the player down a long corridor to a vast chamber while dodging deadly drops of fluid dripping from the ceiling, leading me to believe my travels had taken me into the depths of the digestive system, where mammoth drops of stomach acid posed a very real threat. Then again, that level’s boss was a snake-like creature that fired bullets suspiciously shaped like sperm, so I may not actually have been in the belly of the beast.... |

Baby Pac-Man review (ARC)Reviewed on March 27, 2006While everyone knows of Midway's unauthorized sequels to "Pac-Man", namely "Ms. Pac-Man" and to a lesser extent, "Jr. Pac-Man", very few have heard of this questionable game. Releasing in 1982, a year after "Mrs. Pac-Man" and a year before "Jr. Pac-Man", it never seemed to catch on in the arcades the way the other games in the series had. In fact, out of all the malls, theaters, restaurants, shopping centers, convenience stores, and arcades that I have perused for pay-per-play video game action,... |

A.P.B. review (ARC)Reviewed on March 22, 2006For a few short days, Officer Bob knew paradise. The trial for the vacant position on the police force had been surprisingly easy; all he had to do was drive around a parking lot and pretend to arrest some orange cones. Then he was on the job, cruising through town and issuing citations between grabbing donuts on the run. But if Bob had possessed more of an officer’s instinct, he may have wondered why such a sleepy whistle-stop needed multiple massive police stations, each flanked by a fleet ... |

Arabian Fight review (ARC)Reviewed on March 08, 2006When compared to greats such as Streets of Rage 2 or The Punisher, Arabian Fight just doesn’t make cut. It tries very hard to push forward new graphical innovation that, to be fair, are rather original for its time but falls completely short by giving us fighting engine so basic that it makes the original Golden Axelook like Forgotten Realms: The Demon Stone. |

The Ninja Kids review (ARC)Reviewed on February 08, 2006According to a few religions, we are on the brink of the end of the world. Supposedly, humanity is nearing Judgment Day, the Apocalypse, the End of Days, or however else the day is named. The human race will die out, letting the blessed ascend into the great arcade in the sky while the sinners are cast into a dark and fiery oblivion. The world as we know it would cease to exist, an unfathomable and bleak future for everything else that survived. Sounds like fun, right? Caught in the midst of suc... |

Tech Romancer review (ARC)Reviewed on January 02, 2006Capcom has always been a company to produce excellent and well known fighting games, like Street Fighter and Marvel vs. Capcom. But every once in a while, the folks at Capcom will release a game that is released quietly and with little fanfare, and dies out without so much as a whisper. Tech Romancer is one of those games. Even though it never became a popular title like most other Capcom fighting games, this game is a fun alternative that will surely empty your pockets. Tech Romancer is a giant... |

Rampage review (ARC)Reviewed on October 19, 2005Rampage’s attempts at proper villainy ultimately fall flatter than an animated coyote (apetitius giganticus) who finds himself momentarily hovering with the clouds high above a desert ravine. |

Strikers 1945 Plus review (ARC)Reviewed on September 03, 2005Over the past few years there has been a void in my gamer soul where the shooters used to be. I felt destined to be counted among the lost; that vast pool of estranged old-schoolers, disenchanted by style-over-substance shooters, and forever reminiscing about Konami codes and R-Type machines at the mall. It seems my salvation has come, and it appeared as a simple airplane. No advanced spacecraft, heat-seeking lasers, or physics defying maneuvers. Just propellers and a machine gun. |

Xevious review (ARC)Reviewed on August 06, 2005Xevious is nothing you'd play if you were embroiled in something great and substantial. But it's a decent distraction when there's nothing else at stake. Brainless blasting is always more attractive to me than an old puzzle game like Ms. Pacman or a provencial pseudo-platformer like Mappy, because you can actually go somewhere. The screen actually scrolls, the illusion of travelling occurs. |

Pang! review (ARC)Reviewed on July 31, 2005It may be fair to argue that Mitchell is not a coin-op company with a lavish history, and we, the gaming public, have not been inundated with titles spanning a 25 year stretch which other more illustrious names can claim. In fact, if you look at a list of their published titles, one name stands out for the frequency of its appearance - and for good reason too. |

Final Fight review (ARC)Reviewed on June 22, 2005Mike Haggar probably won’t remind you of your town’s mayor. The head of Metro City’s government is, to be frank, a steroid-enhanced freak of nature whose idea of bringing law to the masses involves taking to the streets, getting his hands on each individual hooligan and beating the everloving life out of him or her. |
